Despite the disappointing season and not making the finals, Bennett was proud of his side\u2019s fighting spirit in the face of adversity. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe kept fighting all year I don\u2019t think it was just the last five or six weeks,\u201d Bennett said. \u201cWe just weren\u2019t playing top eight teams. That was the difference. There\u2019s a lot of things that we\u2019ll benefit from. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Jye Gray\u2019s, the Wards, the Humphreys all got a lot of experience that they wouldn\u2019t probably have got in a normal year and that\u2019ll hold us in good stead going forward and there\u2019s a few other young players in that category as well. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you look at your depth, there will always be players injured, so it is what your back-up is and they\u2019ve got some really good experiences here, the back-up players. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think the ward was a classic example of that he has been tremendous and was good out there again tonight.\u201d <\/p>\n

Bennett paid tribute to fullback Jye Gray, who ran for 171 run metres and had a linebreak and try assist despite battling the flu all week. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe was sick all week and was still sick tonight with the flu and a virus,\u201d Bennett said. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m amazed at what he could do. I thought I\u2019d have to replace him at half time, but he just said, he\u2019d be right. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe said I can\u2019t breathe sometimes out there, Coach, but I\u2019m going to be okay. I said, fine, just to get a breath every now and again. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe can see that every week with him. He\u2019s a very courageous player. Him and Young Ward the pair of them are just young men. All under 75 kilograms and they play like they play. Very brave.\u201d <\/p>\n
Souths skipper Jack Wighton called the last two years the toughest stint of his career, but believes it can be the making of the Souths team. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s a footy world, you never know what you\u2019re going to get, it comes with a mixed bag of tricks,\u201d Wighton said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had some great young talent come through. Tallis Duncan, he\u2019s been amazing. There\u2019s been heaps of experience had. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s one of those things you just got to get through and hopefully we\u2019ll change our ways next year. There\u2019s no use looking back on it and feeling sorry for yourself. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s done and it\u2019s been a tough stint. One of the toughest stints of my career to be fair the last two years, but it is what it is and we go forward and we go again.\u201d <\/p>\n
In a positive Souths\u2019 captain Cameron Murray made a successful return from a long-term injury to finish a tough season on a good note. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very important to him and to us going forward to realise and recognise what he brings to the team,\u201d Bennett said.<\/p>\n
