<\/a><\/p>\nThe following day 7NEWS Perth\u2019s Ryan Daniels revealed Reid\u2019s management had put forward multiple proposals that would keep the 20-year-old at West Coast.<\/p>\n
One of the deals could shake out to a $20 million contract over 10 years.<\/p>\n
Eagles coach Andrew McQualter praised Reid for being \u201csuper invested\u201d in the club and joked about locking him down as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got a pen in my pocket, I\u2019m heading over there after this,\u201d he told 7NEWS Perth.<\/p>\n
West Coast are more hopeful than ever of keeping Reid despite their lack of on-field success, with Caroline Wilson suggesting a divide has opened up.<\/p>\n
Reid is not interested in joining a rebuilding Victorian club, she said on The Agenda Setters<\/a>, while others are baulking at the salary demands.<\/p>\n \u201cThe player and his family have made it clear they do not want to go a struggling club,\u201d Wilson said on Channel 7\u2019s The Agenda Setters<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019ve got no interest in St Kilda and North Melbourne. I\u2019m not sure they\u2019ve got much interest in Essendon but Essendon certainly have no interest at that sort of money. At that money, yes, they have (ruled themselves out).<\/p>\n \u201cThey think Hawthorn are right in there, Hawthorn say there\u2019s been no meaningful talks. Others say Richmond and Melbourne are having a crack.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat happened was I think West Coast also said to the management \u2018we\u2019re not interested in that sort of money either\u2019. It\u2019s ridiculous money for an unproven player.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat has happened in the last 24 hours \u2014 I think West Coast have come back to the table and we\u2019re talking significantly more than $1.5m a year.\u201d<\/p>\n Craig Hutchison said: \u201cThey\u2019re the only ones that can really meaningfully overpay and justify it at the moment, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n Cornes questions whether such a large offer from any club is \u201cgood for him\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cNo criticism to him but are West Coast, with the issues they\u2019ve had with the behaviour of their biggest stars over the journey \u2014 is that setting him up in the best possible way to be the best player he can be?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n Already seen as the saviour at the Eagles, Cornes worries that Reid will now become bogged down by the tag.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is what he\u2019s going to get every week,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cHe gets 20 in the first half (against Richmond), he\u2019s on track for career-best numbers and they go \u2018OK we\u2019ve had enough of this, we\u2019re just going to put a tagger on him\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you play West Coast you are stupid if you don\u2019t tag Harley Reid, which is so unfair for him in his second year to cop that.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is going to get very, very boring for him playing in that side when he cops that treatment and loses every week.\u201d<\/p>\n Reid\u2019s Eagles teammate Reuben Ginbey admitted it was \u201cquite new to us\u201d to see Reid tagged and needing help.<\/p>\n \u201cHarley is a phenomenal player, and he was phenomenal in that first half,\u201d Ginbey said on Monday.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve got to learn how to help Harles out to keep him in the game, because he\u2019s super important for us.<\/p>\n \u201cBut we can\u2019t just rely on a few. We\u2019ve got to rely on the whole team to step up in times like that.\u201d<\/p>\n McQualter acknowledged after the game \u201cwe\u2019ve got a 20-year-old carrying our midfield\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not an easy position for him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a team we have to find more people and players and ways to not rely on one person. I thought Harley was by far our best player tonight.<\/p>\n \u201cI loved his team-first approach, the way he attacked the ball. He was inspirational to his teammates.
