The stuck record continues, but it is playing a necessary tune. Tottenham Hotspur have a clear weakness in their squad on the left wing.<\/p>\n
Mathys Tel has missed out on Tottenham\u2019s Champions League squad<\/a>. This decision was ultimately made by Thomas Frank<\/a>, but it highlights the club\u2019s shortcomings this summer. Tel is the only natural left winger at Spurs, and he is not yet deemed to be good enough for the first team.\u00a0<\/p>\n Brennan Johnson<\/a> has been starting there, but once the fixtures begin to stack up, it would be useful to have him available as a backup to Mohammed Kudus<\/a>.<\/p>\n It has been reported that Tottenham could return for Savinho in January<\/a>. While both Johnson and Wilson Odobert<\/a> are capable of covering on the left, Savinho could take the team to the next level. <\/p>\n Spurs would benefit from signing another full-back<\/p>\n Tottenham were linked with former full-backs Kyle Walker-Peters and Dennis Cirkin earlier in the summer, but talks went quiet as Spurs prioritised attacking targets.<\/p>\n On the surface, there are some decent options on the defensive flanks. Pedro Porro<\/a> is one of the best players around in his position, while Djed Spence<\/a> and Destiny Udogie<\/a> are both versatile options. However, if two of these were to be out with injury at the same time, that could cause Spurs some issues.<\/p>\n Archie Gray<\/a> played well as a right-back for Leeds United, but that was in the Championship and he has mostly played as a centre-back or a midfielder at Tottenham. Another point is that with Bissouma still linked with a Spurs exit<\/a>, Gray could be called on when Joao Palhinha<\/a> needs a rest. <\/p>\n Tottenham should consider another quality centre-back <\/p>\n Spurs missed out on Manuel Akanji<\/a> just before the transfer window closed and he was not the only centre-back mentioned in Tottenham circles. Piero Hincapie was another until his move to the other side of North London, and Nathan Ake was also brought up<\/a>.<\/p>\n Tottenham obviously have two of the very best in Cristian Romero<\/a> and Micky van de Ven<\/a> and Kevin Danso<\/a> can do a job too. However, Frank is clearly not all that impressed with his other options. Neither Kota Takai<\/a> nor Radu Dragusin<\/a> has made his Champions League squad, although to be fair, both players have been out with injuries.<\/p>\n
