Russian scientists have developed a new cancer vaccine that is
\nnow ready for clinical use, according to the Federal Medical and
\nBiological Agency (FMBA). The announcement was made by FMBA head
\nVeronika Skvortsova at the Eastern Economic Forum, as per a report
\nby Russian news agency TASS, Azernews reports.<\/p>\n
The vaccine, called Enteromix, is based on mRNA technology \u2014 the
\nsame approach used in some Covid-19 vaccines. Instead of using a
\nweakened virus, mRNA vaccines teach the body\u2019s cells to produce
\nproteins that trigger an immune response against cancer cells.<\/p>\n
Skvortsova said the vaccine has completed years of research,
\nincluding three years of required preclinical trials. The trials
\nshowed that the vaccine was safe even with repeated doses and was
\nhighly effective. In some cases, tumors shrank or grew more slowly
\nby 60% to 80%, depending on the type of cancer.<\/p>\n
Researchers also noted improved survival rates among test
\nsubjects.<\/p>\n
The first focus for this vaccine will be colorectal cancer,
\nwhich refers to the cancer of the large intestine. Work is also
\nadvancing on vaccines for glioblastoma, a fast-growing brain
\ncancer, and certain types of melanoma (a serious skin cancer),
\nincluding ocular melanoma, which affects the eye.<\/p>\n
The announcement came during the 10th Eastern Economic Forum in
\nVladivostok, which drew more than 8,400 participants from over 75
