The \u2018Baddest Motherf\u2014ker\u2019 (BMF) belt got another wild chapter this past Saturday (July 19, 2025) at UFC 318<\/a>, where Max Holloway made history by becoming the first fighter to defend the title. In a gritty unanimous decision, \u201cBlessed\u201d avenged his loss to Dustin Poirier, sending \u201cThe Diamond\u201d into retirement with a heartbreak<\/a> inside New Orleans\u2019 Smoothie King Center, LA (watch highlights<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Post-fight, Ilia Topuria, the Featherweight champ and only man to knock out Holloway<\/a>, stirred the pot on social media, claiming he\u2019s still the true BMF king<\/a>. Subtle shade? You bet.<\/p>\n

Holloway wasn\u2019t having it<\/a> and at the UFC 318 press conference, he fired back, telling Topuria to \u201cGet over it, bro<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

Enter UFC Welterweight champ Jack Della Maddalena, who couldn\u2019t resist jumping into the \u2018BMF\u2019 banter. <\/p>\n

\u201cLittle fella is a little confused. It\u2019s actually mine,\u201d Maddalena wrote on his Instagram story.<\/p>\n

If we\u2019re playing the unofficial BMF lineage game, Maddalena\u2019s got a point.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a reminder:<\/p>\n

Jorge Masvidal birthed the BMF era by stopping<\/a> Nate Diaz at UFC 244<\/a>.
Kamaru Usman flatlined<\/a> Masvidal at UFC 261<\/a>.
Leon Edwards sent Usman to the shadow realm<\/a> at UFC 278<\/a>.
Belal Muhammad outworked Edwards at UFC 304<\/a>.
Jack Della Maddalena dethroned Muhammad at UFC 315<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The catch? The BMF belt was only officially on the line for Masvidal-Diaz. Everything else is just fight game folklore. Still, it\u2019s funny to see all of the fighters try and make a claim.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Maddalena is putting his fictional \u2018BMF\u2019 title on the line\u2014along with his Welterweight title\u2014against Islam Makhachev later this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n
