T\ufeffhe Bear<\/a> actress Ayo Edebiri<\/a> is going viral for her reaction to an ‘insane’ interview question.<\/p>\n

\ufeffEdebiri was doing an interview with Italian outlet Artslife TV with her After the Hunt co-stars Julia Roberts<\/a> and Andrew Garfield<\/a> when journalist Federica Polidoro asked Garfield and Roberts to answer a question about what we “had lost” during the “politically correct era”, including the #MeToo and Black Lives Matter movements, excluding Edebiri from the question.<\/p>\n

Garfield leaned forward and glanced at his co-stars, laughing uncomfortably while Edebiri looked back at him, visibly confused.<\/p>\n

“\ufeffCan you repeat that? With your sunglasses on I can’t tell which of us you’re talking to,” Roberts replied.<\/p>\n

The journalist doubled down again, explaining that the question was for Andrew and Julia, before repeating it. \ufeff<\/p>\n

“Now that the #MeToo era and the Black Lives Matter (movement) are done, what do we have to expect in Hollywood?” the journalist asked again.<\/p>\n

\ufeffEdebiri’s facial expressions encapsulated exactly how they were all feeling as she realised she had been excluded from the question.<\/p>\n

She then quickly jumped in saying: “Yeah, I know that that’s not for me, and I don’t know if it’s purposeful, it’s not for me, but I just am curious.”<\/p>\n

“\ufeffI don’t think it’s done. I don’t think it’s done at all,” she continued.<\/p>\n

“It’s not done,” Roberts echoed.<\/p>\n

Edebiri continued, “I think maybe hashtags might not be used as much, but I do think that there’s work being done by activists, by people, every day, that’s beautiful, important work that’s not finished \u2013 that’s really, really, really active for a reason, cause this world is really charged. And that work isn’t finished at all.”<\/p>\n

“Maybe there’s not mainstream coverage in the way that there might have been, daily headlines in the way that it might have been eight or so years ago, but I don’t think that it means that the work is done,” she added.<\/p>\n

“That’s what I would say.”\ufeff<\/p>\n

Garfield also chimed in supporting Edebirir’s answer: “And that the movements have been halted in any way… the movements are still absolutely alive, as (Ayo said) \u2013 just maybe not as labelled and covered, or witnessed or magnified as much in this present moment.”\ufeff<\/p>\n

After the video was posted to social media, it quickly picked up traction, with users commending \ufeffEdebiri’s graceful reaction to the situation.<\/p>\n

One X (formerly known as Twitter) user said the actress was a “superstar class act”, while another said she handled the question with “poise and grace”.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAnother user wrote<\/a>: “It’s so insane to me that the interviewer would ask a question regarding the black lives matter movement, then proceed to deliberately exclude the only black person in the room\u2026 anyway ayo handled this beautifully and her answer was very insightful!”<\/p>\n

The journalist responded to the backlash in an Instagram post, saying that since the interview came out, she had been\ufeff “subjected to personal insults and attacks because of a question that, for some reason, was not well received by some members of the public.”<\/p>\n

She also said she had been “unjustly” accused of racism by saying she had interviewed \ufeff”people of every background and ethnicity,” adding “my own family is multi-ethnic, matriarchal, and feminist, with a significant history of immigration.”<\/p>\n
