\n\tJon Stewart<\/a> backed\u00a0Stephen Colbert<\/a>\u00a0during Monday night\u2019s monologue on The Daily Show<\/a>, joining a chorus of voices slamming CBS<\/a> after its abrupt decision<\/a> to end The Late Show<\/a>\u00a0in 2026, which Colbert\u00a0has hosted for a decade.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a statement last week, the network claimed\u00a0the cancellation was financial. However, the decision to axe\u00a0Colbert\u2018s top-rated show \u00a0drew backlash<\/a>, since the announcement came days after Colbert criticized Paramount, CBS\u2019 parent company, over its decision to agree to a settlement with Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand the corporate fear. I understand the fear that you and your advertisers have with $8 billion at stake, but understand this, truly, the shows that you now seek to cancel, censor, and control \u2014 a not insignificant portion of that $8 billion value \u2014 came from those fucking shows,\u201d said Stewart in his fiery tirade. \u201cThat\u2019s what made you that money. Shows that say something, shows that take a stand, shows that are unafraid.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe late night host warned institutions backing down: \u201cIf you believe as corporations or as networks, you can make yourselves so innocuous that you can serve a gruel so flavorless that you will never again be on the boy king\u2019s radar \u2026 Why will anyone watch you and you are fucking wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tUsing Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s lawsuit against billionaire Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch over\u00a0The Wall Street Journal\u2018s report on a birthday letter<\/a> Trump allegedly wrote to Jeffrey Epstein, Stewart quipped: \u201c[Murdoch] is the man who \u2014 other than Biden \u2014 may be the most responsible for getting Trump elected.\u201d Then, the late night host added, \u201cFox spends 24 hours a day blowing Trump, and it\u2019s not enough. Imagine suing somebody mid-blow \u2014 \u2018Finish up down there, and I\u2019ll see you in court.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tParamount, which owns both CBS and Comedy Central, has faced financial struggles amid a merger with Skydance Media proposed last year, and it is still awaiting approval by the Trump administration\u2019s Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Earlier this month, Trump received a $16 million settlement in a lawsuit he filed against CBS regarding the editing of a\u00a060 Minutes\u00a0interview with Kamala Harris, which Colbert called a \u201cbig fat bribe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf you\u2019re trying to figure out why Stephen\u2019s show is ending, I don\u2019t think the answer can be found in some smoking gun email or phone call from Trump to CBS executives or in CBS\u2019 QuickBooks spreadsheets on the financial health of late night,\u201d Stewart continued on Monday\u2019s episode. \u201cI think the answer is in the fear and pre-compliance that is gripping all of America\u2019s institutions at this very moment, institutions that have chosen not to fight the vengeful and vindictive actions of our pubic hair doodling Commander in Chief. This is not the moment to give in.\u201d<\/p>\n
