Thursday marks three weeks until the NBA preseason opens with the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"61719eb2-11c3-4e3d-90c3-0a1319fd850b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/ny\/new-york-knicks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Knicks<\/a> and <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ca1685ed-b799-53e4-7924-e58ea6eb8f3a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/phi\/philadelphia-76ers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> squaring off in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>Although continuity is the name of the game for the defending champion <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"bd458c44-2d33-47eb-cebc-35d3d4ac595c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/okc\/oklahoma-city-thunder\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oklahoma City Thunder<\/a>, who bring back every player who saw at least 50 minutes of action during last season&#8217;s playoff run, the teams chasing them have made important changes this offseason, including the Knicks replacing Tom Thibodeau on the sideline.<\/p>\n<p>The <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"78113ad4-1ac7-0c04-dada-388a6ff4e15e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/hou\/houston-rockets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Rockets<\/a> made the biggest splash, adding two-time Finals MVP <a data-player-guid=\"dc324fde-eee8-98e2-09ac-d31d8ad9909e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3202\/kevin-durant\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Durant<\/a> to a young core that finished second in the West last season before losing in the opening round. The <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c4aceb39-0eb9-a30b-1120-9cb5b12b677a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/den\/denver-nuggets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver Nuggets<\/a> took a different approach, supplementing their <a data-player-guid=\"22f57511-06ae-1587-f01b-33965365ce0d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3112335\/nikola-jokic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikola Jokic<\/a>-led core with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3138196\/cameron-johnson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cameron Johnson<\/a> and upgrades to their bench.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, lottery picks such as the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ca1685ed-b799-53e4-7924-e58ea6eb8f3a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/phi\/philadelphia-76ers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/a>&#8216; <a data-player-guid=\"d5a0355a-95f4-38ed-b96d-ea0302ebbd0b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/5124612\/vj-edgecombe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">VJ Edgecombe<\/a> could be difference-makers for the unlikely teams that jumped up in May. The Rockets are hoping he can be the finishing piece for a franchise striving for a third NBA championship. His role in Houston couldn&#8217;t be clearer. In joining the club that finished dead last in the league in effective field goal rate in the clutch (43.8%) during the regular season, Durant will be expected to serve as a closer and No. 1 option on offense when the going gets tough. &#8212; Herring <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541459_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2. <a data-player-guid=\"10c8715d-6e1c-40de-59cb-625bf16ebbc7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4066320\/desmond-bane\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Desmond Bane<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"74c23102-8c27-c8e6-ec1b-8a8fd4d42554\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/orl\/orlando-magic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orlando Magic<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old swingman&#8217;s move to the Eastern Conference for four first-round picks, <a data-player-guid=\"171eb159-a032-0148-a7ab-946354f6991a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/2581018\/kentavious-caldwell-pope\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"390cbbeb-9761-1174-69a8-831a5b201127\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4432809\/cole-anthony\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cole Anthony<\/a> was one of the most seismic moves all summer, and highlighted the fact that the Magic want to go all-in right now. Acquiring Bane, a career 41% shooter from 3 on ample volume, makes all the sense in the world for a club that finished last in the league in triples and 3-point percentage. He&#8217;ll instantly help in that regard, while also alleviating some of the offensive pressure that sat on the shoulders of <a data-player-guid=\"b121848a-30d3-3fad-b6ab-74bf04005533\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4432573\/paolo-banchero\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paolo Banchero<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"a585c182-99b5-3f9f-97ec-4382128e8e9f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4566434\/franz-wagner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Franz Wagner<\/a>.  &#8212; Herring <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541466_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>3. <a data-player-guid=\"52d9a7a4-0bee-a926-a5fd-f2ecb96eaa95\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3138196\/cameron-johnson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cameron Johnson<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c4aceb39-0eb9-a30b-1120-9cb5b12b677a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/den\/denver-nuggets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver Nuggets<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Given the remarkable similarity between Johnson&#8217;s production for the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"926db769-d35e-e282-9d7e-a05001d774ab\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/bkn\/brooklyn-nets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooklyn Nets<\/a> and the production of the player he&#8217;s replacing in Denver (<a data-player-guid=\"84f89e6d-8dd8-5b8b-bfe7-83ba59ee5121\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4278104\/michael-porter-jr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Porter Jr<\/a>.), one of the fascinating questions going into this season is whether Johnson will perform better now that he gets to team with three-time MVP <a data-player-guid=\"22f57511-06ae-1587-f01b-33965365ce0d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3112335\/nikola-jokic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikola Jokic<\/a>. <a data-player-guid=\"171eb159-a032-0148-a7ab-946354f6991a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/2581018\/kentavious-caldwell-pope\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/a>&#8216;s poor season with the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"74c23102-8c27-c8e6-ec1b-8a8fd4d42554\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/orl\/orlando-magic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orlando Magic<\/a> has fueled the idea of a Jokic effect on 3-point shooting in particular. The larger sample is mixed.<\/p>\n<p>Nuggets newcomers since 2018-19 who have attempted at least 100 triples have shot about one percentage point better in Denver (37.2% compared with 36.2% over the previous three seasons). Meanwhile, Caldwell-Pope is an outlier among players leaving the Nuggets, who have gone from 36.7% with the Nuggets to 36.2% with their new teams.  &#8212; Pelton <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541472_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>4. Mike Brown, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"61719eb2-11c3-4e3d-90c3-0a1319fd850b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/ny\/new-york-knicks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Knicks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps no coach in the league will face as much title-or-bust pressure as Brown this season. One indication of that: Upon announcing the decision to fire Brown&#8217;s predecessor, Tom Thibodeau, Knicks president Leon Rose said, &#8220;Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans.&#8221; New York is coming off its best season in 25 years, which ended with two All-NBA selections and a run to the conference finals. It will be incumbent upon Brown to figure out how to get more out of the team&#8217;s starting lineup and improve the club&#8217;s defensive issues.  &#8212; Herring <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541468_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>5. <a data-player-guid=\"9af41ea8-a24c-025f-a63f-8263fbf0ca66\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4278129\/deandre-ayton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deandre Ayton<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"2876e98b-b9bc-2920-4319-46e6943f8be4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/lal\/los-angeles-lakers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>This surely won&#8217;t be Ayton&#8217;s last chance to live up to the potential that earned him a max contract bought out by the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ed294c02-3c44-db14-9e06-1b4e8cff9558\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/por\/portland-trail-blazers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Portland Trail Blazers<\/a> on the eve of free agency. It might be his best. During <a data-player-guid=\"583794eb-0f38-9bbd-3e25-9dd33b7f83b8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3945274\/luka-doncic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Luka Doncic<\/a>&#8216;s NBA career, players who have screened for him have an effective field goal percentage of 63% when they end up shooting on the play, best of any ball handler with at least 500 such plays according to GeniusIQ tracking. Ayton must feast on those opportunities and be a defensive upgrade on incumbent center <a data-player-guid=\"4cd92ac1-73ce-653d-c3b1-9c68e9c7a4d0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4397077\/jaxson-hayes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jaxson Hayes<\/a>.  &#8212; Pelton <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541463_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>6. <a data-player-guid=\"a61d70b4-d544-33c8-3eb9-aa6e5074f97e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3133628\/myles-turner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Myles Turner<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f59bbabc-eedb-9ad2-c5dd-9bcd9f450a2f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/mil\/milwaukee-bucks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milwaukee Bucks<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Arguably no move this offseason was more stunning than the one that made Turner a Buck. (The transaction that made acquiring Turner possible for Milwaukee was eye-opening as well, with the club <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/45630759\/sources-free-agent-myles-turner-bucks-reach-4-year-107m-deal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opting to waive and stretch the remaining contract<\/a> of nine-time All-Star <a data-player-guid=\"c6bdd0b0-2176-2089-9b41-1ca3540f64f4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/6606\/damian-lillard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Damian Lillard<\/a>, who is set to miss the upcoming season after rupturing his Achilles.) Turner was once a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate and still carries a good reputation on that end as a rim protector along with his floor-spacing ability. All of his skills will be necessary to help elevate <a data-player-guid=\"00985054-c4b3-4247-e825-ddf062d457c3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3032977\/giannis-antetokounmpo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a> and the Bucks beyond the first round, which they&#8217;ve failed to do since 2022.  &#8212; Herring <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541462_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>7. <a data-player-guid=\"a1f467e2-5304-c8c1-db23-80fe313c3d7c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3102531\/kristaps-porzingis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kristaps Porzingis<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"15096a54-f015-c987-5ec8-55afedf6272f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/atl\/atlanta-hawks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atlanta Hawks<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Last season was a tough one for Porzingis, who missed the first month of action recovering from an offseason surgery before struggling at times &#8212; including during the playoffs &#8212; to perform at his best due to a mystery upper-respiratory virus that sapped his energy throughout the campaign. But between that and Boston&#8217;s need to trim salary to avoid the second apron, the Hawks were able to swoop in and acquire him, giving Atlanta an elite rim protector and floor spacer for <a data-player-guid=\"5745cf6d-e0cb-7585-60cd-97f7891bbeef\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4277905\/trae-young\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trae Young<\/a>. Porzingis simply needs to stay healthy.  &#8212; Herring <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541469_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>8. <a data-player-guid=\"6cf6ea11-b3e4-35fd-bb91-f9f6caf6e2c8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/5041939\/cooper-flagg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cooper Flagg<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f00d1f4e-4ce6-d581-466c-5b52531cf7ad\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/dal\/dallas-mavericks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas Mavericks<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>The consensus top prospect in the 2025 draft is in an unusual spot for a No. 1 pick. The Mavericks were in the NBA Finals 15 months ago and played for a spot in the playoffs despite trading away <a data-player-guid=\"583794eb-0f38-9bbd-3e25-9dd33b7f83b8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3945274\/luka-doncic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Luka Doncic<\/a> midseason and suffering a second-half injury cascade. Flagg isn&#8217;t Doncic and will need time to develop, but his well-rounded game should allow him to contribute to a playoff push immediately as he develops into the next great Dallas star.  &#8212; Pelton <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541465_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>9. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/2595516\/norman-powell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Norman Powell<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"81e3212c-30ef-9b1b-5edb-453b13ff265a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/mia\/miami-heat\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Heat<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Miami was dreadful last season following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/6430\/jimmy-butler-iii\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jimmy Butler<\/a> trade, going 14-21 and losing 10 straight games in March before turning things around and earning a postseason spot through the play-in games. More than anything, the offense desperately needed a leg up this offseason. That&#8217;s where Powell, who&#8217;s playing the best ball of his career in his early 30s, comes in. He isn&#8217;t the biggest facilitator, but the man can score on and off the ball, and from both inside and outside the arc. He has shot nearly 40% from deep for his career. Expect him to be an enormous help to <a data-player-guid=\"1417212d-ee61-bc8b-40a5-30dc9db6d72b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4395725\/tyler-herro\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tyler Herro<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"38b3edc5-57ff-d3ff-9aa2-2865f7f01a4c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4066261\/bam-adebayo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bam Adebayo<\/a> on the offensive end.  &#8212; Herring <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541467_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>10. <a data-player-guid=\"e9d2d871-df56-3068-8d5f-e3fc27f49a96\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4437244\/jalen-green\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jalen Green<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c6eade89-5971-0e84-8ccb-cd91482b2b50\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/phx\/phoenix-suns\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Phoenix Suns<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>The former No. 2 pick gets a new start &#8212; and a new position &#8212; in Phoenix after the Durant trade. The Suns are expecting Green to start at point guard alongside <a data-player-guid=\"493046d7-fa60-d8a1-1397-b9a6dca8dedf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3136193\/devin-booker\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Devin Booker<\/a>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Gambo987\/status\/1936835627812786487\" rel=\"nofollow\">John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports<\/a>. Green showed only modest playmaking in four seasons with the Rockets, topping out at 3.7 APG. And Green hasn&#8217;t yet been an effective pick-and-roll ball handler. But with the Cavs facing what would have been a tax penalty of a quarter billion dollars for keeping their roster fully intact, they punted on bringing Jerome back, allowing him to strike a three-year, $28 million deal to serve as <a data-player-guid=\"de5f87e0-8571-a730-ade4-6d00d10b8577\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4279888\/ja-morant\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ja Morant<\/a>&#8216;s backup in Memphis. It&#8217;s worth remembering that one of the biggest strengths the Grizzlies had during their two 50-win campaigns with Morant was their steady backup guard play from <a data-player-guid=\"c4cddbcc-957d-6182-fa33-66d045c64fc6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3135046\/tyus-jones\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tyus Jones<\/a>. He should slot in beautifully as a third scorer, and the Clippers&#8217; depth should benefit greatly from having him &#8212; and fellow newcomers <a data-player-guid=\"63c7648a-60ba-c799-d355-f7f1d43f3a55\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/2779\/chris-paul\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Paul<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"3496fbc1-fa88-c332-7f91-f015006e0c8b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3448\/brook-lopez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brook Lopez<\/a> &#8212; in reduced roles.  &#8212; Herring <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541470_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>13. <a data-player-guid=\"d8fd1989-052d-3e45-91f2-6fda54fa5c8e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/5037871\/dylan-harper\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dylan Harper<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"8aef8547-32f5-0943-a1de-e734567674cc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/sa\/san-antonio-spurs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Antonio Spurs<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth watching this year&#8217;s No. 2 pick as a rookie, not so much for how it impacts the Spurs&#8217; season &#8212; playing behind newly extended <a data-player-guid=\"5f18d1cf-1c2e-3601-a04e-1a3fc84d8ef1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4066259\/deaaron-fox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">De&#8217;Aaron Fox<\/a>, Harper&#8217;s role might be limited with the team at full strength &#8212; but for the future. The sooner Harper looks ready to take over at point guard, the more difficult decisions San Antonio could face with Fox. Reigning Rookie of the Year <a data-player-guid=\"26c7892b-12d0-3b1d-9645-f881921a1a20\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4845367\/stephon-castle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stephon Castle<\/a>, who can also handle the ball and is an iffy outside shooter like Fox and Harper, further muddies the Spurs&#8217; backcourt of the future.  &#8212; Pelton <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft imageLoaded\" height=\"250px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/r1541471_400x600_2-3.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>14. <a data-player-guid=\"d5a0355a-95f4-38ed-b96d-ea0302ebbd0b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/5124612\/vj-edgecombe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">VJ Edgecombe<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ca1685ed-b799-53e4-7924-e58ea6eb8f3a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/phi\/philadelphia-76ers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Edgecombe needed just one appearance at the Salt Lake Summer League to show why the 76ers took him third overall. In his debut, Edgecombe had 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, using his explosiveness to live in the paint. Joining a veteran Philadelphia squad that was surprised to end up in the lottery, Edgecombe might not have the opportunity to handle the ball so much early in his rookie season.
