S\ufeffir Michael Caine<\/a> may be stepping out of retirement<\/a> to return to an old role of his.<\/p>\n

The 92-year-old is said to be returning to acting for a sequel of The Last Witch Hunter alongside his longtime friend Vin Diesel.<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Variety<\/a>, the production of the sequel is currently being fast-tracked \ufeffby Lionsgate and Diesel’s production banner, One Race Films.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Caine’s involvement in the upcoming film has not yet been finalised, but it is expected that he will reprise his role as Dolan, a priest who aided Diesel’s warrior Kaulder as he battled a plague in the fictional world.<\/p>\n

The film, a somewhat passion project of Diesel’s, grossed just $27 million in North America but drew better commercial success overseas, bringing in $119 million in international revenue, per Variety.<\/p>\n

Production of the sequel comes a decade after \ufeffthe original film was released in 2015.<\/p>\n

For the role, Caine will return to starring alongside Diesel with whom he has been friends for decades.<\/p>\n

The acting veteran revealed in his memoir Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over: My guide to Life that he and \ufeffThe Fast and the Furious star “first met at a dinner party about 30 years ago”, per People<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They became fast friends \ufeffwith Caine noting that Diesel had been “going through some tough times” when they met.<\/p>\n

“I think perhaps it made an impression upon him to be embraced and treated with love,” he added. “Anyway, we’ve been great friends ever since.\ufeff <\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the duo were spotted spending time together in London.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Caine’s ancitipated return to the film comes two years after the industry icon announced his retirement from acting in 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two-time Oscar winner made the announcement on BBC Radio 4s Best of Today podcast at the time.\ufeff<\/p>\n

“I keep saying I’m going to retire,” said Caine<\/a>, adding: “Well, I am now.”<\/p>\n

He went on to confirm that The Great Escaper, which was released weeks before his annoucement, marked his final acting gig\ufeff.<\/p>\n

“I’ve played the lead and it’s got incredible reviews. The only parts I’m goint to get now are old men \ufeff\u2013 90-year-old mean, or maybe 85, you know \u2013 and I thought well I might as well leave with all this,” he added.<\/p>\n

“I’ve got wonderful reviews. What am I going to do to beat this?”<\/p>\n

It appears the allure of returning to his character was enough to draw the legenday actor out of retirement.<\/p>\n

Caine began his acting career on the stage in the early 1950s, before making his movie debut in 1956.<\/p>\n

What followed was an acting career that spanned eight decades.<\/p>\n

Caine was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1993, and he was knighted in 2000.<\/p>\n
