T\ufeffwo weeks after Emma Heming Willis<\/a> revealed her husband Bruce Willis<\/a> had moved out of the family home amid his dementia battle, she has again addressed the difficult decision, which she said was “not up for debate”.<\/p>\n

Heming Willis<\/a> recently revealed her movie star husband was now living in his own home, close to the one he and Emma shared with their two children, but she has faced a public backlash over the decision.<\/p>\n

Now she has been forced to address the matter again, telling Good Morning America she made the decision not just for Willis but their two daughters.<\/p>\n

Willis was diagnosed with aphasia, which affects communication and language, in 2022, before his family announced in 2023 he had been diagnosed with the more serious frontotemporal dementia (FTD).<\/p>\n

His wife has since revealed in Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey \u2013 A Diane Sawyer Special that Willis’ condition progressed to the point it was necessary to move him out of the family home into a one-storey house where he receives around-the-clock care.<\/p>\n

Since making the revelation, Heming Willis has had to address backlash over the decision, first on Instagram, where she said those that criticised her clearly had no experience of being a caregiver<\/p>\n

Now she has told Good Morning America’s<\/a> Michael Strahan, “[It] was the safest and best decision \u2013 not just for Bruce, but also for our two young girls. And, you know, it’s really not up for a debate.” \ufeff<\/p>\n

Heming Willis recently revealed husband Bruce now lives in a separate home. (YouTube\/ABC News)<\/p>\n

“Now I know that Bruce has the best care 100 per cent of the time,” she continued.<\/p>\n

“His needs are met 100 per cent of the time, as well as our two young daughters. So I’m not gonna take a vote on that.”<\/p>\n

Heming Willis previously told People the decision was “the hardest thing”, but the right one for Bruce and their two children.<\/p>\n

The couple, who married in \ufeff2009, share Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.<\/p>\n

Heming Willis previously explained<\/a> Willis would want their family home to be about their children’s needs.<\/p>\n

“We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing.”<\/p>\n

Emma, 49, also explained that people with dementia<\/a> required “a calm and serene atmosphere” \u2013 something that was not possible with children in the house.<\/p>\n

“Everything just feels a lot calmer, more at ease now,” she added.<\/p>\n

Willis Heming said the arrangement meant she could go back to being Willis’ wife and not just his caregiver, and revealed she and the girls visited most days, often having breakfast and dinner with the star.<\/p>\n

In her previous chat with Sawyer, Heming Willis tearfully revealed the star, now 70, showed only fleeting signs of his personality.<\/p>\n

“We get moments. It’s his laugh right? He has such a hearty laugh and sometimes you will see that twinkle in his eye or that smirk,” Heming Willis said.<\/p>\n

“And you know… I just get transported.<\/p>\n

“It’s just hard to see it because as quickly as those moments appear then it goes. And it’s hard.”<\/p>\n

Willis’ family also includes his former wife, Demi Moore, and their three kids, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.<\/p>\n

Heming Willis has just written a book as a guide for other caregivers.<\/p>\n

She told Good Morning America, the book “gives them permission to care for themselves. Because if they don’t, how will they be able to show up and continue to care for the person that they love?”<\/p>\n

She said she was prompted to transition Willis into his own home after a neurologist told her that caregivers often die before their loved ones.\ufeff<\/p>\n

“It’s OK for me to raise my hand. I didn’t realise that,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I really needed permission for someone to tell me that it’s OK to get help.”<\/p>\n
