{"id":132323,"date":"2025-09-10T08:22:18","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T08:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/132323\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T08:22:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T08:22:18","slug":"fire-destroys-cricket-clubs-thatched-outbuilding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/132323\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire destroys cricket club&#8217;s thatched outbuilding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Fire crews have been attending a blaze at a thatched outbuilding which has caused its roof to collapse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said it attended a building fire at Bures and District Cricket Club on Nayland Road in Bures, Suffolk, at about 23:40 BST on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Appliances from Sudbury, Nayland, Long Melford, Hadleigh, Haverhill, Ixworth, Colchester and Halstead were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A spokesperson for the fire service said: &#8220;The roof and building structure of the outbuilding at the cricket pavilion has completely collapsed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A white building is in the middle of the image on a field. A fire has made half of the building collapse, including its roof, which has left a rubble of wood on the right. \" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"541\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/952dd291df042c4fc0d18e3bfc2b5527.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The fire service said no casualties were reported [Luke Deal\/BBC]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A water supply was established from a nearby river and four 45mm (1.7in) jets were used, alongside four main and two hose reel jets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The cricket club said it was &#8220;truly devastated and heartbroken&#8221; about the incident, and had recently been fundraising to rethatch the roof of its pavilion, with works due to start in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Chris Crace, the chairman of the club, said: &#8220;[The building] was huge to the community, to the club and the local surroundings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It was a very important part of lots of peoples lives,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The fire service said the blaze was under control by 03:26 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A white building is on the left and stood on a field.
