When asked about Sunjay Kapur\u2019s attempt to secure Portuguese citizenship for Karisma and their children, her lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani said it raised questions about the will. He explained that around the end of May\u2014about two months after the will was reportedly executed\u2014Sunjay tried to arrange Portuguese citizenship for his kids and possibly for Karisma. She, however, refused because it would have meant giving up her Indian citizenship.<\/p>\n

He added that Sunjay\u2019s attempt to get Portuguese citizenship for his children raised further questions. The plan would have exempted all three kids\u2014including the child with Priya Kapur and Sunjay\u2019s two children with Karisma\u2014from inheritance tax on overseas properties. The lawyer noted that it seemed odd to pursue this in May 2025 if a will had already been executed in March 2025, leaving all overseas assets to Priya and nothing to the children, calling it a suspicious circumstance.Sunjay, chairman of the well-known Indian auto company Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12 at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack during a polo match in London.<\/p>\n
