{"id":1354,"date":"2025-07-17T21:02:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T21:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/1354\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T21:02:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T21:02:11","slug":"sunny-side-up-for-eggs-and-cholesterol-news-and-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/1354\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunny side up for eggs and cholesterol &#8211; News and events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text18 theme-blue-6 altis-bold\">&#13;<br \/>\n            18 July 2025&#13;\n          <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/eggs-gettyimages-1212021333--web.jpg\" alt=\"smiley egg face\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"\/>From poached to panfried, when it comes to eggs, it\u2019s all sunny side up, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0002916525002539?via%3Dihub4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new research<\/a> from the University of South Australia confirms that this breakfast favourite won\u2019t crack your cholesterol.<\/p>\n<p>Long blamed for high cholesterol, eggs have been beaten up for their assumed role in cardiovascular disease (CVD). Now, UniSA researchers have shown definitively that it\u2019s not dietary cholesterol in eggs but the saturated fat in our diets that\u2019s the real heart health concern.<\/p>\n<p>In a world-first study, researchers examined the independent effects of dietary cholesterol and saturated fat on LDL cholesterol (the \u2018bad\u2019 kind), finding that eating two eggs a day \u2013 as part of a high cholesterol but low saturated fat diet \u2013 can actually reduce LDL levels and lower the risk of heart disease.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/cardiovascular-diseases-(cvds)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CVD is the leading cause of death worldwide<\/a>, responsible for nearly 18 million deaths each year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heartfoundation.org.au\/your-heart\/evidence-and-statistics\/key-stats-cardiovascular-disease\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In Australia, one person dies from CVD every 12 minutes, accounting for one in four of deaths nationwide.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lead researcher, UniSA\u2019s Professor Jon Buckley, says it\u2019s time to rethink the reputation of eggs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEggs have long been unfairly cracked by outdated dietary advice,\u201d Prof Buckley says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re unique \u2013 high in cholesterol, yes, but low in saturated fat.
