{"id":136064,"date":"2025-09-11T20:41:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T20:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/136064\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T20:41:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T20:41:08","slug":"sophia-and-armada-link-terrestrial-and-orbital-edge-processors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/136064\/","title":{"rendered":"Sophia and Armada link terrestrial and orbital edge processors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PARIS \u2013 Mobile edge computing specialist Armada and <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/sophia-space-raises-3-4-million-for-orbiting-data-centers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sophia Space<\/a> are working together to establish integrated, scalable compute infrastructure extending from Earth to space. <\/p>\n<p>By connecting terrestrial and orbital edge processors, the partners intend to \u201ccreate a seamless edge-computing network that connects remote locations on Earth with computing resources in space,\u201d according to the Sept. 11 news release.<\/p>\n<p>For drone warfare, for example, Sophia can quickly fuse satellite observations with terrestrial data sources, Brian Monnin, Sophia co-founder and chief growth officer, told SpaceNews by email.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, computing capability in low-Earth orbit offers redundancy, surge capacity and emergency\u00a0restoration for Armada Galleons, Monnin said.<\/p>\n<p>Armada Galleons are rugged terrestrial data centers for Armada Edge Platform, a hardware and software stack designed for AI applications.<\/p>\n<p>Galleons and TILEs<\/p>\n<p>Through the partnership, Armada Galleons will be linked with Sophia Space\u2019s TILE orbital compute modules and Sophia Orbital Operating System. TILE, a platform designed for low-latency, energy-efficient AI processing, is the foundation for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sophia.space\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sophia\u2019s scalable infrastructure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis partnership extends the edge into space, enabling real-time operations anywhere they\u2019re needed \u2014 on Earth and beyond,\u201d Armada CEO Dan Wright said in a statement. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sophia Space CEO Rob DeMillo said the partnership will lead to \u201ca fully autonomous, on and off planet compute fabric that thinks, adapts and acts in real time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Space-based edge processing, once rare, is being adopted widely. Many companies already offer ground-based edge computing resources.<\/p>\n<p>Until now, the terrestrial and orbital edge nodes have been established separately, making it \u201ctime-consuming and expensive\u201d to make them work together, Monnin said. \u201cArmada and Sophia will be seamlessly integrated, saving developers time with new applications.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With AI processing and adaptive learning, the edge processing infrastructure will continuously improve, according to the news release.
