B\ufeffruce Willis’<\/a> wife Emma Heming has explained how she told their two daughters the actor was moving into his own house, amid his debilitating battle with dementia.<\/a><\/p>\n

She explained in her book, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, how she broke the news<\/a> to their daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.<\/p>\n

“We’ve come to a point in Daddy’s disease where the care he requires is changing. It has to be more tailored to his every need,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

She also explained to them that their father would want his daughters to have “freedom” in their family home.<\/p>\n

“Daddy would want you to have playdates, sleepovers, and more freedom than you’ve been able to have here. That would make him so happy,” she said.<\/p>\n

Hemming also said the girls can see their dad \ufeff”anytime they wanted” and could even “keep personal things like toys, arts and crafts supplies, bathing suits, pjs, and games” there.<\/p>\n

The mother of two wrote that her daughters understood the decision was for Willis’ “overall well-being and safety,” but conceded that the decision was still “painful” for all of them.<\/p>\n

“In fact, it’s still painful for me,” she writes.<\/p>\n

“After all, this is my husband, and having him in another home was not part of the future we’d mapped out together. You really can’t dream this stuff up.”<\/p>\n

Heming first told US outlet ABC News that the actor would be living separately in an interview last month.<\/p>\n

“He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs,” she told the outlet at the time.<\/p>\n

She faced backlash for the decision, defending the move on Good Morning America \ufeffearlier this week.<\/p>\n

“It was a hard decision for us, but it was the safest and best decision not just for Bruce but also for our two young girls,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s really not up for debate, I know that Bruce has the best care 100 per cent of the time.<\/p>\n

“His needs are met 100 per cent of the time, as well as our two young daughters. So I’m not gonna take a vote on that.”<\/p>\n

Willis’ family announced the actor had been diagnosed with dementia in February 2023, a year and a half after \ufeffthey announced his retirement from acting due to a diagnosis of aphasia, a condition that impacts language.<\/p>\n

They later confirmed the \ufeffaphasia was a symptom of FTD.<\/p>\n
