\n A major break in the hunt for a suspect in Charlie Kirk\u2019s fatal shooting came Thursday, after the FBI released photos of a man caught on surveillance video and asked for the public\u2019s help in identifying him.\n <\/p>\n

\n Tyler Robinson\u2019s father recognized the young man as his son, a law enforcement official told CNN<\/a>. When Robinson was confronted by his father, he confessed, another source said.\n <\/p>\n

\n On Thursday evening, \u201ca family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend,\u201d who contacted authorities, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Robinson was taken into custody around 10 p.m. local time Thursday, FBI Director Kash Patel said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHis family and a friend helped to deliver him into custody of law enforcement in Washington County,\u201d Cox said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Other clues pointed to Robinson as the suspect, the governor said, such as his clothes <\/a>and a car spotted Wednesday morning near the scene of the shooting.\n <\/p>\n

\n Investigators also spoke with one of the suspect\u2019s relatives, who said Robinson \u201chad become more political in recent years,\u201d the governor said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe family member referenced a recent incident in which Robinson came to dinner prior to September 10, and \u2026 Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU,\u201d Cox said.\n <\/p>\n

\n The dinner conversation included Robinson saying he didn\u2019t like Kirk\u2019s viewpoints, his relative told investigators, according to Cox. \u201cThe family member also confirmed Robinson had a gray Dodge Challenger\u201d \u2013 the type of car seen in the surveillance footage at UVU.\n <\/p>\n

\n Authorities also interviewed Robinson\u2019s roommate, who showed investigators comments attributed to Robinson on Discord, the governor said.\n <\/p>\n

\n They included \u201cmessages affiliated with the contact \u2018Tyler\u2019 stating a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush\u201d and leaving \u201cthe rifle wrapped in a towel,\u201d Cox said.\n <\/p>\n
