\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger took pole position for the NASCAR Cup Series at Bristol.<\/p>\n

Driving the #16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet Camaro, Allmendinger ran a 15.117-second lap (126.930 mph) of the half-mile Bristol Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n

He pipped Team Penske\u2019s Ryan Blaney in the #12 Ford Mustang by just 0.003s.<\/p>\n

Allmendiner broke his duck dating back to Watkins Glen in 2015 for what was just his fifth pole position in 475 starts.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the first time he\u2019s ever started on the pole at Bristol in his 27 starts.<\/p>\n

Asked how he won the pole, Allmendinger replied: \u201cI don\u2019t know I closed my eyes in both of them, so I\u2019m not really sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis place is so tough to qualify, but the first lap she stuck and I thought, I looked down at the dash like, that\u2019s a pretty good lap, so I\u2019m gonna try for more in the second [lap].<\/p>\n

\u201cI know it\u2019s just qualifying. We\u2019ve got 500 laps around this place. To get a pole at Bristol, that\u2019s pretty awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery dog has his day. Hopefully we can do that for 500 laps.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m super proud of everyone at Kaulig Racing, all the men and women.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been building fast cars all year and this Cup Series is tough, especially when you\u2019re a smaller team trying to grow.<\/p>\n

\u201cLittle victories like this, even though it\u2019s qualifying, means a lot to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blaney was the highest-placed driver in the Playoffs in second ahead of Team Penske stablemate Austin Cindric in the #2 Mustang.<\/p>\n

Trackhouse Racing\u2019s Shane van Gisbergen had a tough time in qualifying, setting a 15.396s in the #88 Camaro that put him only 28th.<\/p>\n

The only Playoffs driver worse than van Gisbergen was Chase Briscoe, who qualified the #19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry in 31st.<\/p>\n

Van Gisbergen\u2019s teammate Ross Chastain was 13th in qualifying while Daniel Suarez was 35th.<\/p>\n

A total of 39 cars will contest the 500-lap race on Sunday, which begins at 9:30am AEST.<\/p>\n
