Absolutely wild.

However, another promising game caught my eye, and despite its obvious storybook/hand-animated aesthetic, it’s apparently not a direct sequel to N64’s Yoshi’s Story, or even a spiritual successor to Yoshi’s Island on the Super Nintendo, but rather a brand new standalone game exclusive to Nintendo’s Switch 2. It’s scheduled for a Spring 2026 release, by the way.

The game starts off looking traditionally 3D modeled, wherein Yoshi and his buddies approach a—wait for it—mysterious book named Mr. E, who falls from the sky, as mysterious books typically do. Once Yoshi dives into its pages to help read them, though, the visuals become almost stop-motion animated, calling to mind sketch-like colored pencil drawings that have been magically brought to life, or Xbox’s South of Midnight.

The friendly flower beings showcased in the game’s trailer also call to mind 1997’s Yoshi’s Story, and The Mysterious Book does come across, at least initially, as more cute adventure game than traditional 2D platformer. You explore the storybook, meet odd creatures and (maybe) solve simple puzzles that involve the native wildlife and the inviting environment.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

Credit: Nintendo

Throughout the years, I’ve really enjoyed all the Yoshi titles Nintendo has put out, so this one is definitely on my radar. I even properly reviewed Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly World on the 3DS years ago, and it’s crazy that we’re now expecting a brand new Yoshi experience on the Switch 2 in 2025.

Going off the trailer alone, the graphics and art direction in The Mysterious Book are probably its most appealing assets, but verdict on the gameplay will have to remain ambiguous for the time being. I think this could be a good one to play with the family, and luckily, we won’t have to wait too much longer to get our hands on it.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Credit: Nintendo Today’s Nintendo Direct was pretty jam-packed: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Dragon…

[6
64,63,10844,14194,105,95381
post-139303","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-technology","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-nintendo","tag-switch-2","tag-technology","tag-yoshi-and-the-mysterious-book
["GET
