Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres is struggling at the Emirates Stadium as his Gunners team-mates don\u2019t trust him enough, according to former Premier League forward Troy Deeney.<\/p>\n
The north Londoners made a good start to the new season, beating Manchester United and Leeds United in their opening two fixtures, but a 1-0 loss to Liverpool<\/a> means Mikel Arteta\u2019s side will have to pick themselves up to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.<\/p>\n Against Liverpool, Arsenal<\/a> were accused of playing within themselves and failing to take risks after being tipped to cause Arne Slot\u2019s side a lot of problems.<\/p>\n When asked if Arsenal players need to find Gyokeres\u2019 runs more, Deeney said on talkSPORT<\/a>: \u201cWhy are you trying to start me off on this? You\u2019ve just said Arsenal players don\u2019t pass him the ball. Why do you think that is?<\/p>\n \u201cDo you think the midfielders and the players at Arsenal are not good enough to see the runs?\u201d<\/p>\n When asked whether the Gunners players lacked bravery for failing to take on a risky ball, former Watford striker Deeney replied:\u00a0\u201cOr they don\u2019t trust him.\u201d<\/p>\n READ:\u00a0Liverpool \u2018flop\u2019 Florian Wirtz among Big Six sextet needing to step up after the international break<\/a><\/p>\n It was pointed out to Deeney that Gyokeres scored against Leeds United after he ran onto a Riccardo Calafiori lofted ball to bag his first goal for Arsenal.<\/p>\n Deeney added: \u201cWhat\u2019s happened is, this is the thing that fans get caught up in, they\u2019ll go, \u2018Oh he showed you against Leeds, play a ball over the top and he scores\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cWith great respect, he was against Leeds. Played five or six balls over the top and four or five opportunities to put him in against Man United, he made the wrong runs and no-one says anything.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I think there\u2019s an element of the players going, \u2018We\u2019re not sure\u2019, because I tell you what, when Kai Havertz is fit and plays, they give him the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n MORE ARSENAL COVERAGE ON F365\u2026 When put to him that Gyokeres is the type of player Arsenal need up front, Deeney responded:\u00a0\u201cYeah, and it\u2019s on him to make the runs and be more deliberate.<\/p>\n \u201cLook, I think the kid is all right. He\u2019s all right. I just don\u2019t think he\u2019s that guy.\u201d<\/p>\n Before continuing: \u201cMy point is, we shouldn\u2019t be having these conversations around the striker.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it\u2019s the one you guys have got because you\u2019ve identified early, \u2018He\u2019s the one for us\u2019, we shouldn\u2019t be having these debates whether he can do it.<\/p>\n \u201cHe should be coming in now to get Arsenal over the line. Yet we\u2019re what, two, three weeks in? Obviously it\u2019s very early, but he didn\u2019t score for Sweden in the two [World Cup qualifying] games he was there.<\/p>\n \u201cSo he scored in one game for Arsenal, so he obviously got two [goals]. There\u2019s not been a game where you\u2019ve gone, \u2018That\u2019s the player\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Once again addressing whether his Arsenal team-mates need to find Gyokeres earlier, Deeney added:\u00a0\u201cDo you think [Bukayo] Saka has the ability to find him earlier? Do you think [Martin] Odegaard has the ability to do it?<\/p>\n \u201c[Eberechi] Eze? [Noni] Madueke? So you think with those four players, they\u2019ve got that.
