One\u2019s the \u201cskinniest truck driver\u201d in Australia, and the other runs a popular food blog when she\u2019s not helping people with disabilities to find a job.<\/p>\n
My Kitchen Rules\u2019 first set of gatecrashers \u2014 Marko Savic and Danielle Oakman from WA \u2014 might have marked differences in cultures, interests, and skillsets, but the couple believe they embody all the values emblematic of their home State.<\/p>\n
One of three latecomer teams to enter the home cooking show\u2019s cauldron, the pair of 26-year-olds will put themselves, and WA, on a plate as they host their instant restaurant on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
\u201cDanielle and I are WA personified, we\u2019re Perth personified,\u201d Marko told PerthNow.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re underdogs, we\u2019re hard working, but we\u2019re also very relaxed and chill. So I think us representing WA is perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meeting at a music festival seven years ago, the couple are now living with Marko\u2019s family while they save for their first home.<\/p>\n
With Marko of Serbian descent, and Danielle\u2019s heritage part Chinese, the bubbly couple promise to bring a unique mix to the dinner table.<\/p>\n
Less than two years ago, Danielle began documenting her foodie exploits on social media purely because friends kept asking for recommendations.<\/p>\n
Now, she\u2019s got another 12,000 hungry online followers awaiting the inside scoop.<\/p>\n
While discovering the culinary delights of Perth and abroad is a hobby, her spark in the kitchen was lit a lot closer to home.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy parents inspired my love for cooking. There is nothing better than a good home-cooked meal,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Exposed to Serbian and Balkan flavours as a kid, Marko began cooking for himself from a young age while his parents managed their truck driver training business.<\/p>\n
Choosing to follow a similar path, at 22 he became the youngest truck driving assessor of his kind in Australia since 1981.<\/p>\n
But Marko swears, his diet is a little more refined than that of the truckies he trains.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you\u2019ve ever looked at a truckie, you\u2019ll see that the food culture is probably meat pies that you get at a service station. So I\u2019m probably the skinniest truck driver in Australia as well,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n
Marko\u2019s ideal cooking scenario would be leaving a lamb on a spit for hours while sharing a drink with mates on a summer\u2019s day \u2014 with the UFC blaring in the background.<\/p>\n
Lacking no confidence ahead of their \u201chostile\u201d debut on the show, the pair hope their \u201cyin and yang\u201d dynamic will impress judges Colin Fassnidge and Manu Feildel, as well as their fellow competitors.<\/p>\n
\u201cComing in as a gatecrasher is an absolute ideal scenario\u201d Marko said. \u201cThat means that someone has been eliminated, and we\u2019re one step closer to winning the ultimate prize.\u201d<\/p>\n
