When a woman\u2019s best friend shared a video of his recent proposal, she was surprised by the setting <\/p>\n

After watching the proposal unfold and being asked her opinion, she offered her honest thoughts<\/p>\n

The conversation, however, quickly and unexpectedly escalated – opening up questions about how strong their friendship really is<\/p>\n

Proposals are meant to be unforgettable moments \u2013 cherished milestones that reflect the unique bond between two people.\u00a0But when these moments don\u2019t align with expectations, even the most well-intentioned plans can fall flat.<\/p>\n

One Reddit user recently shared<\/a> her experience witnessing her best friend\u2019s engagement and the fallout that followed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI (27f) was excited when my best friend (27m) told me he had proposed to his girlfriend (29f),\u201d she writes. However, her enthusiasm quickly turned to confusion when he showed her the video.<\/p>\n

Expecting a romantic location like a beach or a candle-lit dinner, she was shocked to see the proposal take place at a gym.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw his girlfriend on an exercise machine in the video, I had a bad feeling,\u201d the user admits.<\/p>\n

According to the poster, the fianc\u00e9e said \u201cyes,\u201d but only after an initial moment of shock. \u201cShe only looked happy for 2 minutes and the rest of the time she gave an insincere smile,\u201d she writes.<\/p>\n

Later, the poster\u2019s best friend confided in her, expressing frustration that his fianc\u00e9e admitted she didn\u2019t like the way he proposed.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was venting to me and asked me how I would feel if a guy proposed to me while I was at the gym,\u201d she explains. \u201cI guess he really expected me to agree with him, but I said I would hate it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her reasoning was straightforward. She explained that she wouldn\u2019t want to be proposed to while sweaty and unprepared, particularly in a setting that\u2019s not romantic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI basically explained to him that I understood why she was disappointed,\u201d she shares.<\/p>\n

The woman clearly empathized with the fianc\u00e9e and tried to offer perspective, but her best friend did not take it well. Instead of appreciating her honesty, he accused her of \u201cbeing shallow and a bad friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luckily, Reddit was on her side, with users questioning if her best friend even wanted her true opinion in the first place.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe’s asking for your opinion because his girlfriend didn’t like how he proposed, and when you agree with her, he calls you ‘shallow’?\u201d one user wrote. \u201cApparently, he was not really asking for your opinion: he wanted confirmation that his sloppy proposal was ‘ok.’ “<\/p>\n

Another added, \u201cHe asked you, you were honest, and he didn’t like your answer. That’s 100% on him.\u201d<\/p>\n
