Erin Bates<\/a> is finally home with her little one.<\/p>\n

Weeks after the Bringing Up Bates alum was hospitalized due complications following the birth of her Chad Paine\u2019s seventh baby Henry, her husband shared an update on her recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter almost three weeks in the hospital, I have never been so thankful to finally head home to our babies,\u201d Chad captioned a Sept. 13 Instagram post alongside several photos, including one of himself pushing Erin and baby Henry in a wheelchair. \u201cWe don\u2019t have all the answers yet, and I still don\u2019t have function in my right leg, but we are choosing to count every blessing\u2014especially the gift of being together again.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cYour prayers have carried us through and mean the world to our family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 34-year-olds latest health update comes nearly two weeks after her husband shared that Erin suffered a \u201clengthy and severe seizure<\/a>\u201d and was admitted to the ICU after developing a severe UTI and kidney infection, which sent her into septic shock<\/a> shortly after giving birth.<\/p>\n

“Up to this point, Erins infection was getting better, but we found ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears,” Chad\u2014who also shares kids Carson, 10, Brooklyn<\/a>, 8, Everly, 7, Holland, 5, Finley, 3, William, 22 months, with Erin\u2014wrote on Instagram<\/a> Sept. 4. “The doctors are running scans and tests to determine the cause. Erin is extremely weak and spent hours only half conscious.”<\/p>\n

\u201cAs her husband, it is one of the hardest things I\u2019ve ever faced\u2014to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering,\u201d he continued. \u201cI love her more deeply than words can express, and I can\u2019t even imagine life without my best friend.”<\/p>\n

And since then, Erin\u2019s parents Gil Bates and Kathy Bates shared insight into the slew of complications and uncertain diagnoses<\/a> that followed.<\/p>\n

“We’ve hesitated to share updates<\/a>, since Erin’s diagnosis has changed several times,” the duo wrote on their Instagram Stories Sept. 10. “She’d recover from one thing just to experience yet another complication. It’s puzzled the doctors who’ve done a significant amount of testing, so without an exact diagnosis, & with her condition changing often, it’s been harder to share.”<\/p>\n

“We’ve had teary nights, late nights, happy nights & a whole array of emotions,” the parents of 19 kids added in their statement. “But through it all, we’ve felt a deep gratitude for the love that has constantly surrounded us!”<\/p>\n

As for how baby Henry was doing during Erin\u2019s hospitalization<\/a>? Well, Erin\u2019s loved ones gathered to help care for the newborn.<\/p>\n

“We have been completely overwhelmed by the love and support of family and friends during this difficult season,” Chad wrote on Instagram<\/a> Sept. 12 alongside a photo of Henry with what appeared to be a breathing tube in his nose. “From watching the kids and taking them on adventures, to helping with baby Henry and lifting Erin up with encouragement\u2014you have carried us in ways we can\u2019t even put into words.”<\/p>\n

Gil Bates & Kelly Bates<\/p>\n

South Carolina state wrestling champ William Gilvin \u201cGil\u201d Bates met lab assistant Kelly Bates (n\u00e9e Callaham) at South Carolina Christian liberal arts school Anderson University, when she was tasked with tutoring him in Chemistry. Proving they had plenty of it, he proposed in October 1987, while they were finishing up college at Tennessee\u2019s Carson-Newman University. Marrying just two months later, the couple didn\u2019t intend on having a large brood, but neither believed in birth control. \u201cWe both came to the conclusion that we just wanted to trust God with how many children we had,\u201d Gil told Dateline<\/a> in 2011, admitting they assumed they\u2019d cap out at two or three.<\/p>\n

Eldest son Zachary Bates was born a year after their wedding; their 19th child\u2014son Jeb Bates\u2014arrived in 2012. As for rattling off the names of their oversized brood, Kelly joked of Gil, who runs excavating company Bates Tree Service, “Oh, Daddy’s good at that. His memory’s better than mine.”<\/p>\n

Zachary Bates<\/p>\n

Like his siblings, Zachary (born Dec. 30, 1988) was homeschooled and a dedicated student of Bill Gothard’s Institute in Basic Life Principles. Though his courtship with Sarah Reith was captured on 19 Kids and Counting it was future wife Whitney Perkins who captured his heart while working as a Sonic carhop. He proposed two months after the two started a courtship in 2013, marrying that December. (John-David Duggar served as one of the groomsmen. The couple went on to welcome sons Bradley (in October 2014) and Jayden (in June 2021) and daughters Kaci (in June 2016), Khlo\u00e9 (in November 2019) and Lily Jo (in August 2023).<\/p>\n

In addition to working for the family tree business, Zachary has served as a police officer, a county commissioner and a real estate agent.<\/p>\n

Michaela Bates Keilen<\/p>\n

Arriving 13 months after her older brother on Jan. 23, 1990, Michaela Bates Keilen learned to sew as a child, stitching together most of the family\u2019s dresses and overseeing the laundry. With future husband Brandon Keilen unable to propose until he graduated from bible college, they courted for two years before their April 2015 engagement.<\/p>\n

Settling in Chicago after their wedding that August, the pair struggled to build a family, with Michaela detailing her fertility struggles<\/a> in blog posts and on YouTube. After suffering a miscarriage in 2021, they became foster parents for two young boys. <\/p>\n

Erin Bates Paine<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking back on my childhood and the way that my parents raised me, I can\u2019t think of anything that was negative,\u201d Erin Bates Pain (who joined the fam on May 2, 1991) told People<\/a>. “Everything, looking back, is really positive, and we made the best memories.\u201d <\/p>\n

While they didn\u2019t have a television \u201cwe substituted that for playtime with dad,\u201d she continued. \u201cOr, you know, playing games as a family or making memories. So, I don\u2019t feel like we missed out on anything and, actually, I think we were smarter because of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Which meant that after she married Charles “Chad” Stephen Paine III in 2013, they were eager for a big brood of their own. A blood clotting disorder let to several miscarriages before they were able to welcome Carson in May 2015, Brooklyn in August 2016, Everly in May 2018, Holland in November 2019 and Finley in January 2022. And though she believed they wouldn\u2019t be able to have more children, they went on to grow their family with William in October 2023 and Henry in August 2025. Revealing that Erin had gone into septic shock<\/a> following Henry\u2019s delivery, Chad wrote on Instagram<\/a>. “We would so appreciate your prayers for Erin as she continues to recover from some complications.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson Bates<\/p>\n

A young entrepreneur who opened his own lawn-cutting business Lawson\u2019s Lawncare at 13, Lawson Bates (born July 27, 1992) was linked to Jana Duggar<\/a> after commenting on a few of her Instagram posts. But he announced his engagement to Tiffany Espensen after he proposed during an October 2021 getaway to Italy. “Getting to know Tiffany\u2014her heart, her passions, and her dreams\u2014 has been the greatest joy of my life,\u201d the singer-songwriter told People<\/a> at the time, \u201cand we have been making so many wonderful memories together over the past year.\u201d<\/p>\n
