A VICTORIOUS return to Tickford Racing narrowly eluded him, but there was an extra special element to Mark Winterbottom<\/a>\u2019s podium yesterday at The Bend 500.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice when your six-year-old kid\u2019s here and doesn\u2019t think you\u2019re shit,\u201d said Winterbottom, who joined Cam Waters<\/a> in finishing runners-up to Brodie Kostecki\/Todd Hazelwood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was, of course, Winterbottom\u2019s first Tickford\/Ford Supercars race in the best part of seven years, having spent the intervening period full-time at Team 18 for a return of one win.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a proud dad and my two older boys saw the glory years and my six-year-old probably saw some shit years,\u201d he elaborated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a proud parent and that was a cool moment seeing my little fella run up to the podium and trophy\u2026 and then watching my 14-year-old Facetime me, it\u2019s cool.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never doubt yourself, you have just got to be in the right place. Today was a good result, we\u2019ll try to go a bit better at the next one (i.e. next month\u2019s Repco Bathurst 1000).\u201d<\/p>\n

Winterbottom described the chance to team up with the \u201cunassuming\u201d Waters as \u201crefreshing\u201d and had plenty of good things to say about being back in Tickford colours too.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just comfortable. It\u2019s nice to walk in and not be the problem, and be loved. We\u2019ve had a lot of fun,\u201d said \u2018Frosty\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have got to find the right environment\u2026 sometimes you race full-time and you get beat up a bit.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut in this (co-driver) role, Cam\u2019s been in the window, listening to the set-up changes, and the team has been really good. Even this weekend, our two wildcard guys come down and asked me about starts and all sorts of things.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it\u2019s nice to just be in a good environment where everyone\u2019s happy, we\u2019re working well together and it\u2019s all about this guy\u2019s championship really and trying to get the results.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt hasn\u2019t changed from six years ago, it\u2019s a lot of the same crew and you can see why they do well. It\u2019s nice to be back.\u201d<\/p>\n
