The much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 clash between India and Pakistan in Dubai took an ugly turn off the field, with a handshake row sparking a formal protest from Pakistan.<\/p>\n
According to reports, match referee Andy Pycroft instructed Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands with India skipper Suryakumar Yadav at the toss.<\/p>\n
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) alleged that the move violated the \u201cspirit of sports\u201d and later lodged a complaint against India for what it described as unsportsmanlike behaviour.<\/p>\n
The tensions resurfaced after India\u2019s emphatic seven-wicket win, when Suryakumar sealed victory with a six and walked off after shaking hands only with batting partner Shivam Dube\u2014ignoring the Pakistan players.<\/p>\n
Salman Ali Agha also boycotted the post-match presentation, citing the controversy and the presence of an Indian host.<\/p>\n
In his post-match remarks, Suryakumar Yadav stood firm on India\u2019s stance, dedicating the win to the armed forces and the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome things in life are ahead of sportsmanship. This was our proper reply. Our government and the BCCI were aligned, and together we took a call,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Pakistan coach Mike Hesson confirmed Agha\u2019s absence was a protest move. \u201cWe were ready to shake hands at the end, but the Indian players had already walked off. That was disappointing, especially in a game where we had already underperformed,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
The row has now become a flashpoint in an already high-voltage rivalry, with fans divided on whether politics should overshadow cricket.<\/p>\n
