The Titans’ highest individual honour will be awarded on Tuesday night with the prestigious Paul Broughton Medal to be awarded to the club’s NRL player of the year.<\/p>\n
Named after Gold Coast Titans inaugural chairman and rugby league icon Paul Broughton OAM, the special piece of silverware recognises outstanding individual playing performances round-by-round throughout the regular NRL season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Judged by the coaching staff, a 3-2-1 vote is awarded at the conclusion of each weekly fixture and the player with the highest number of votes at season’s end is bestowed with the prestigious honour.<\/p>\n
Bev Broughton will present the medal named after her late husband at the Titans club awards to recognise performances across the 2025 season.<\/p>\n
Keano Kini is the defending champion after a sublime end to his 2024 season saw the young gun claim his first medal – a neck injury all but ruling the 21-year-old out from back-to-back titles.<\/p>\n
Alongside the electrifying fullback, the Titans have three other previous winners who will be vying for their name to be etched in the history books again.<\/p>\n
Front row enforcers Tino Fa’asuamaleaui (2021 + 2022) and Moeaki Fotauika (2019 + 2023) have claimed the top gong twice and could equal former captain Luke Bailey as the only three-time club champion.<\/p>\n
Brian Kelly is the only other current member of the squad to claim a Broughton Medal, winning back in 2020.<\/p>\n
History shows that forwards traditionally poll well, with eight from the pack claiming the gong (Bailey, Anthony Laffranchi, Nate Myles, Greg Bird, Luke Douglas, Ryan James, Fotuaika and Fa’asuamaleaui), while two hookers have also won (Nathan Friend and Beau Falloon); but Kini bucked that trend last season.<\/p>\n
