{"id":146763,"date":"2025-09-16T06:31:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T06:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/146763\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T06:31:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T06:31:10","slug":"partial-solar-eclipse-to-be-visible-across-new-zealand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/146763\/","title":{"rendered":"Partial solar eclipse to be visible across New Zealand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">A partial solar eclipse was a rare event which had not been seen in New Zealand for at least a decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">Stardome said  only a handful of countries would have the opportunity to witness it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe amount of sun that is blocked by the moon depends on your specific location,\u201d it said. \u201cHere in Auckland, we will see around 60% of the sun blocked, but the further south you go, the more of the sun is blocked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">The eclipse would be visible between 6am and 8am, with the \u201cmaximum eclipse\u201d occurring at 7am, according to Stardome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe sun will rise partially covered by the moon, appearing as a glowing crescent, low on the eastern horizon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">A clear and unobstructed view of the eastern horizon at 7am would give people the best chance of seeing the eclipse, Stardome said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cEclipse ends just after 8am when the moon will slip clear of the sun\u2019s disc, ending the eclipse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">Unlike the blood moon earlier this month, Stardome said there was an important safety reminder for this event \u2013 unlike a lunar eclipse, eye protection would be needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"IGIlsTinqXLQ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt\u2019s never safe to look directly at the sun without proper protection. You\u2019ll need certified solar viewing glasses.
