The Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> and Miami Heat have reportedly reopened trade talks surrounding Andrew Wiggins<\/a>, the former Golden State Warriors<\/a> wing who helped the franchise capture the 2022 NBA championship.<\/p>\n According to Forbes\u2019 Evan Sidery<\/a>, the Heat remain firm on receiving at least one first-round pick in exchange for Wiggins, one of the best two-way wings in the NBA.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Heat and Lakers have reopened discussions on a potential Andrew Wiggins trade ahead of training camp,\u201d Sidery wrote on X. \u201cLos Angeles is very open to moving former first-round pick Dalton Knecht alongside necessary expiring salary.<\/p>\n \u201cMiami wants a future first-round pick attached in the package.\u201d<\/p>\n Will Lakers Meet Asking Price?<\/p>\n At the start of free agency, the Lakers first expressed interest in acquiring Wiggins, per multiple reports. At the time, The Athletic\u2019s Jovan Buha noted that Miami had set a high asking price of Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, and a first-round pick, which the Lakers turned down.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not a realistic trade,\u201d Buha said at the time. \u201cI think Miami\u2019s playing hardball, and we\u2019ll see if they soften their stance.\u201d<\/p>\n When reports of the Lakers\u2019 renewed interest<\/a> in the ex-Warriors star resurfaced, Clutch Points\u2019 Anthony Irwin<\/a> explained why the previous trade talks broke down.<\/p>\n \u201cOne story, and the one that I heard more directly, was that the\u00a0Miami Heat<\/a>\u00a0were asking for\u00a0Rui Hachimura,\u201d\u00a0Irwin said<\/a>\u00a0on the Sept. 8 episode of his podcast\u00a0The Lakers Lounge. \u201cThey were asking for a first-round pick,\u00a0Gabe Vincent, and potentially Dalton Knecht. The Lakers would probably be fine moving off Dalton or Vincent for Wiggins, and maybe even Rui, but they definitely did not want to include Rui and the first-round pick together. That\u2019s where the talks broke down.\u201d<\/p>\n Potential Lakers \u2013 Heat Trade<\/p>\n In light of the reports, Bleacher Report\u2019s Eric Pincus<\/a>, a notable NBA salary-cap expert, presented an ideal scenario that could benefit both the Lakers and Heat. Pincus included the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade pitch.<\/p>\n Lakers would receive:\u00a0Andrew Wiggins,\u00a0Jaime Jaquez Jr.<\/a>, Drew Timme<\/p>\n Heat would receive:\u00a0Rui Hachimura<\/a>,\u00a0Dalton Knecht<\/p>\n Nets would receive:\u00a0Maxi Kleber,\u00a02026 second-round pick, cash<\/p>\n Pincus explained why Wiggins \u2014 the Warriors\u2019 best defender in their 2022 NBA championship victory \u2014 would be an upgrade over Hachimura\/<\/p>\n \u201cFrom a basketball perspective, the 30-year-old [Wiggins] would step in as the team\u2019s best perimeter defender. At 6\u20197\u2033, he\u2019d fill the role left by the departure of Dorian Finney-Smith,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cHachimura had some success against bigger players such as Nikola Joki\u0107 (though not enough for the Lakers to win a series over the Denver Nuggets). Still, he\u2019s not especially mobile enough to stick with attacking guards and wings.\u201d<\/p>\n As for the Heat, Pincus explained why trading Wiggins \u2014 who owns a player option for the 2026-26 season \u2014 would benefit the franchise in the coming years.<\/p>\n \u201cGetting out of Wiggins would not only clear $30.1 million from next year\u2019s books but also put the team well under the tax threshold to add [Precious] Achiuwa,\u201d Pincus wrote. \u201cThe Heat would gain flexibility for additional moves at approximately $9.3 million below the tax threshold.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tSai Mohan<\/a> covers the NBA for Heavy.com.
