Tencent (TCEHY)<\/a>, the owner of WeChat and the world\u2019s biggest video-game business, has returned to the bond market for the first time in four years. The company launched a new bond sale to raise funds for its artificial intelligence<\/a> and cloud projects.<\/p>\n

Tencent said it will issue three sets of offshore renminbi bonds, known as dim sum bonds, with maturities of five, 10, and 30 years. The company did not disclose the total size of the deal.<\/p>\n

Dim sum bonds, issued in Hong Kong, give companies more flexibility since the funds can be converted into other currencies or sent back to the mainland. This is Tencent\u2019s first debt sale since 2021. Global banks, including JPMorgan (JPM)<\/a>, BofA Securities (BAC)<\/a>, and Morgan Stanley (MS)<\/a>, will arrange the sale. Tencent posted revenue of RMB 660 billion ($91 billion) in 2024<\/a>, and the new funds are expected to support its AI<\/a> and cloud expansion.<\/p>\n

Tech Rivals Step Up Bond Sales<\/p>\n

Tencent\u2019s move comes as its peers also raise new funds. Baidu (BIDU)<\/a> last week issued RMB 4.4 billion ($618 million) in bonds that mature in 2029. Meanwhile, Alibaba (BABA)<\/a> raised $3.2 billion from a convertible bond sale maturing in 2032<\/a>. The company said about 80% of the funds will go into its cloud unit.<\/p>\n

This surge in bond sales shows that China\u2019s top tech firms are moving fast to secure capital for AI development and cloud services.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What Is the Price Target for TCEHY Stock?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Overall, Wall Street has a Moderate Buy consensus rating on\u00a0Tencent Holdings stock, based on two Buy ratings assigned in the last three months. The\u00a0average TCEHY price target<\/a>\u00a0of $82.00 implies about 1.07% downside potential from current levels.<\/p>\n
