American tennis star Taylor Townsend<\/a> has apologised for her critique of traditional Chinese cuisine while representing the United States at the Billie Jean King Cup in Shenzhen.<\/p>\n

Townsend, the world doubles No.1, posted a series of videos on Instagram Stories while exploring a buffet at a gala dinner with national teammate Hailey Baptiste.<\/p>\n

“I’m honestly just so shocked at what I saw in the dinner buffet,” she said in one clip.<\/p>\n

“As I go back and I look\u2026 these people are literally killing frogs\u2026 bullfrogs. Aren’t those poisonous? Aren’t those the ones that give you warts and boils and stuff?<\/p>\n

“And the fact that it’s all stewed up with chillies, peppers, and onions. Like oh, you really made this a dish? All in all I’d give this like a solid two out of 10 so far, because this is crazy.”<\/p>\n

Townsend also had no love for the sea cucumber.<\/p>\n

“What the hell?’ This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen… and people eating this,” she said.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old was shredded online for what were viewed by many as ignorant at best and racist at worst.<\/p>\n

“There’s no excuse… I will be better,” Townsend said after returning to social media to repent.<\/p>\n

The tournament finals are being held in Asia for the first time since 1989.<\/p>\n

Townsend was also in the headlines at the US Open last month after beating Jelena Ostapenko.<\/a><\/p>\n

Ostapenko got into a face-to-face argument with Townsend and told her she had “no class, no education.”<\/p>\n
