As much as Gavin loves basketball, what he truly longs for is something no NBA team can give him \u2014 a family who loves him unconditionally.<\/p>\n

DALLAS \u2014 “Make it happen.”<\/p>\n

It’s a famous quote from NBA legend Michael Jordan and one that 13-year-old Gavin is living by in more ways than one.<\/p>\n

Gavin isn’t just chasing basketball dreams. He’s also holding on to the hope that someone will make his dream happen by becoming his forever family.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gavin is this week’s Wednesday’s Child<\/a>, and for this soft-spoken teen, basketball is more than just a game. It’s an outlet, and a space where he says he feels happy and alive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Recently, Gavin got a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the\u00a0Dallas Mavericks<\/a>. From a behind-the-scenes tour of the team’s practice facility to meeting Mavs stars and staff, the day was filled with smiles, surprises, and a lot of hope.<\/p>\n

“I felt special and happy,” Gavin said.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights?\u00a0<\/p>\n

A personal sit-down with Mavs General Manager Nico Harrison, where Gavin got to ask the fun questions like Nico’s favorite color. (It’s blue… sometimes purple).<\/p>\n

Gavin’s caseworker and advocates describe him as a kind, gentle, and determined young man. They say he’s a child who leaves a lasting impression on everyone he meets. Gavin also walked away from his Mavs experience with two brand-new pairs of basketball shoes, courtesy of the team. Talk about a heart full of gratitude!<\/p>\n

“He is one child who deserves this more than anything,” said Marie Hidalgo, who helped organize the unforgettable day.<\/p>\n

But as much as Gavin loves basketball, what he truly longs for is something no NBA team can give him \u2014 a family who loves him unconditionally.<\/p>\n

When asked what he hopes to feel from a future family, Gavin’s answer is simple: “Loved.”<\/p>\n

He also has one important request for any future family: that he be allowed to stay in contact with his younger brother, Marlow, whom he speaks about with deep affection.<\/p>\n

“He likes Legos. He likes Spider-Man, and he likes clothes,” Gavin said proudly.<\/p>\n

Gavin’s caseworker believes that anyone who meets him will see his heart and realize what a slam dunk it would be to welcome him into their lives.<\/p>\n

“He’s just looking for someone to love him for who he is. Just meeting Gavin says it all,” she said.<\/p>\n
