Former NBA star Baron Davis exclusively spoke to Us Weekly about how his intense training for Dancing With the Stars<\/a> is helping to get him back in peak physical shape.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsidering I retired 10 years ago \u2026 I\u2019m [here] for the dads of America,\u201d Davis, 46, joked while speaking to Us after the DWTS season 34 premiere on Tuesday, September 16. \u201cI [have] the \u2018Dad Bod.\u2019 I\u2019m working off my \u2018Dad Bod.\u2019 I\u2019m for the dads of America, basically. They\u2019re gonna get off their ass, just like I got off my ass.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two-time NBA All-Star, who last played in the NBA for the New York Knicks in 2012, credited Dancing With the Stars with bringing \u201ca new life\u201d and \u201ca new energy\u201d to his and his family\u2019s lives. (Davis is a father of two children from his marriage to Isabella Brewster<\/a>, which ended in 2017.)<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying basketball at 46 years old, [it would bring] injuries. \u2026 That\u2019s why we don\u2019t think about it, right?\u201d he pointed out. \u201cAt the same time, you need that workout. You need something creatively to be that therapeutic outlet. So, this is it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSeason 34 of Dancing With the Stars is shaping up to be the best yet. The complete cast of celebrities and pros was announced during the Wednesday, September 3, episode of Good Morning America ahead of the September 16 season premiere following a high-energy performance from Jenna Johnson, Derek Hough and more DWTS favorites. The [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Davis and his professional dance partner, Britt Stewart, landed on the bottom half of the leaderboard on Tuesday\u2019s premiere, with a score of 10 points for their cha-cha-cha to MC Hammer\u2019s classic hit \u201cU Can\u2019t Touch This.\u201d (Judge Carrie Ann Inaba missed Tuesday\u2019s season opener<\/a> due to health issues, so only judges Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough\u2019s scores counted toward the premiere totals.)<\/p>\n

No couples left the ballroom at the end of Tuesday\u2019s episode, though hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough confirmed there will be a double elimination at the end of \u201cOne-Hit Wonders Night\u201d on Tuesday, September 23.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was shocked,\u201d Davis\u2019 partner, Stewart, 35, told Us about the double elimination twist. \u201cThis is my sixth season as a pro, my 11th season total. So I was shocked, but I also wasn\u2019t shocked, because I know that they\u2019re always going to do something like that!\u201d<\/p>\n

The dance pro added, \u201cIt just lights a fire under you, makes you feel more competitive!\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart acknowledged that it was \u201cso disappointing\u201d to have Inaba missing from the judges\u2019 table on premiere night.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Carrie Ann] has a presence and her energy. She\u2019s been here since season 1, so to not have her in the ballroom for the first time was a bummer,\u201d Stewart told Us. \u201cBut, to be honest, I don\u2019t think it added any pressure or anything like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to season 34 kicking off this week, Davis admitted in an exclusive interview with Us that he was \u201ca little hesitant\u201d<\/a> to sign up for Dancing With The Stars, despite his athletic background.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou go back and forth, and you\u2019re like, you know, if you do this, you\u2019re all in, and you\u2019re dancing in front of people, a lot of people, on TV,\u201d he said on September 5.<\/p>\n

Davis mentioned that he was approaching DWTS in the same way that he did with his NBA career by putting all of his \u201canxiety and nervousness\u201d aside before showtime.<\/p>\n
