{"id":151053,"date":"2025-09-18T02:03:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T02:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/151053\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T02:03:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T02:03:11","slug":"broken-hill-launches-lgbtqia-festival-rainbow-in-the-outback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/151053\/","title":{"rendered":"Broken Hill launches LGBTQIA+ festival Rainbow in the Outback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Broken Hill was illuminated with joy and community spirit as it hosted the first-ever Rainbow in the Outback festival to celebrate queer pride in Far West New South Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Along with colourful drag performances, local musical acts and markets, the event aimed to foster a safer, more supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ people in rural communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Lifelong Broken Hill resident Matthew McIntosh said it was essential to be able to be themself in their hometown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Festivals like this are really important to me because it&#8217;s a time when I can embrace my weirdness without fear,&#8221; they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Breaking out of my shell a little bit with the help of festivals like this has very much helped me to do that when it&#8217;s not a festival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now, just on a Friday night, I feel confident to be myself.&#8221;<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A person in lingerie and extravagant eye makeup lies on a stage.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1a6c3e7c4b0c2534b9a99b68da4fb103\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Dorian Courtisan said performing at the festival was a healing experience.
