The retirement age is up 2.2 years for men and 1.1 years for women compared with 2014-2015 figures.<\/p>\n
Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today KPMG economist Terry Rawnsley on Thursday told Sunrise viewers that, for many people these days, it was \u201cpretty easy to keep on working to your late 70s\u201c.<\/p>\n \u201cThese are accountants, engineers, lawyers \u2014 more of these people are working for longer whereas, in the past, we had more blue-collar workers,\u201d Rawnsley said.<\/p>\n \u201cTradies, people working in factories \u2014 those jobs are physically demanding and it\u2019s harder to work for longer.\u201d<\/p>\n Rawnsley said some people even opted to work \u201cwell into their 80s\u201d.<\/p>\n Rawnsley added work from home or hybrid arrangements have also changed the workforce and made it easier for some people to continue working for longer.<\/p>\n \u201cPost-COVID, especially for men in white-collar jobs, a lot more people are participating,\u201d Rawnsley said.<\/p>\n \u201cWorking from home might keep it an attractive role for employees. I might want to work a couple of days a week and it\u2019s easy for me to work from home, it\u2019s easy to keep that flexibility.<\/p>\n \u201cThat flexibility appears to be a really important factor for the older demographic.\u201d<\/p>\n Rawnsley said that working longer was good for the economy \u2014 and usually the workers themselves.<\/p>\n \u201cIt means people are less reliant on the aged pension moving forward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople are paying taxes for longer, which helps the federal treasury.<\/p>\n \u201cResearch has shown the more you work, you also have good health outcomes as well which saves on health costs.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tragic update as dead body found in US singer\u2019s Tesla identified<\/p>\n 1 min read<\/p>\n![\"Download](\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/static\/media\/right-red-arrow.92bca5db.svg\"){kind=icon}
