We\u2019re screaming and waving our arms all wiggly, Kermit-style. Disney is bringing back The Muppet Show<\/a> in its O.G. variety-show format [Kermit: Yay!]. For one stand-alone special [Kermit: makes angry-fist face]. We\u2019re getting exactly one of something we want infinitely repeated, sometime in 2026. The Muppets made the announcement on social media, showing the new backstage set and Kermit\u2019s mug. Like the original Muppet Show, this one-off special will have a special guest: Sabrina Carpenter<\/a>. It\u2019s a perfect match. Carpenter\u2019s sexuality is so cartoonish she has been likened to Bugs Bunny in drag. So we\u2019re already in sassy talking-animal territory. Also she\u2019s the same height as Kermit. Plus, the diva-off between her and Miss Piggy is sure to be legendary. They\u2019ll teach it in schools.<\/p>\n

Previous Muppet Show revivals have tweaked the format for different eras. The \u201990s had Muppets Tonight, the closest to the original except it was hosted by Clifford as something of an Arsenio Hall character. 2015\u2019s The Muppets was a work-com mockumentary \u00e0 la The Office. And Muppets Now on Disney+ tried to get into the short-form video game. Disney+ also tried to get on the reboot\/revival train with The Electric Mayhem<\/a>. \ufeffThis new Muppet Show special is being co-produced by the Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg\u2019s company. We smell more Emmys<\/a>.<\/p>\n
