The FCC chair said Disney’s decision was “important” as broadcasters could “push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values”.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“You know what my community values are buster? Freedom of speech,” Colbert said to applause.<\/p>\n
He also kicked off the show with a parody of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast song Be Our Guest, replacing the chorus with the words with “shut your trap.”<\/p>\n

Jon Stewart took to a special taping of The Daily Show for a new “government-approved” episode.<\/p>\n
Despite only hosting on Monday nights, Stewart came onboard as a satirically and “patriotically obedient” host.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a monologue lasting more than 20 minutes, Stewart took great pains to appease “great father” Mr Trump.\u00a0<\/p>\n
When showing a clip of a British journalist asking Mr Trump about Kimmel’s axing, Stewart joked about a “completely scientific” talent-ometer that sits on Mr Trump’s desk.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I don’t know who this Johnny Drimmel, Live ABC Character is, but the point is our great administration has laid out very clear rules on free speech,” Stewart said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Now some naysayers may argue that this administration’s speech concerns are merely a cynical ploy, a thin gruel of a ruse, a smokescreen to obscure an unprecedented consolidation of power and unitary intimidation.<\/p>\n
“Principle-less and coldly antithetical to any experiment in an constitutional Republic governance.<\/p>\n
“Not me though. I think it’s great.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers, who was singled out by Mr Trump as being next on his hit list, said he would “keep doing our show the way we\u2019ve always done it with enthusiasm and integrity\u201d.<\/p>\n
The NBC Late Night star also paid tribute to Kimmel.<\/p>\n
“It is a privilege and an honour to call Jimmy Kimmel my friend, in the same way that it’s a privilege and honour to do this show every night,” he said in his monologue.<\/p>\n
“I wake up every day and I count my blessings that I live in a country that at least purports to value freedom of speech.”<\/p>\n
In the Closer Look segment, Meyers jokingly called Mr Trump a “visionary” and said any negative comments about the president were “AI”.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“This is a pivotal point in our democracy and will must all stand up for the principles of free expression,” he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I do know Jimmy Kimmel and he’s a decent, funny and loving guy and I hope he comes back,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Saying he had faced a lot of concern over possible censorship, Fallon told the audience he would report on Mr Trump’s UK visit like he “normally would”.\u00a0<\/p>\n
