Michael McLeod and the Carolina Hurricanes deal in doubt<\/p>\n
Michael McLeod, who last played with the New Jersey Devils, was linked with a contract in Carolina. Local reports initially suggested that the Hurricanes were preparing to bring him in ahead of the new season. However, journalist Pat Welter clarified that while the team has looked into the possibility, \u201cexpected to sign\u201d is not the right description.McLeod took a leave of absence in January 2024 after being charged in connection with an incident that dated back to June 2018. In July, Justice Maria Carroccia acquitted McLeod and four other players of all charges. That decision opened the door for their return to the league, with the NHL<\/a> and the NHLPA confirming their eligibility as of October 15.The Hurricanes have not confirmed any agreement. In 287 career NHL games, all with the New Jersey Devils, he has 29 goals, 56 assists, and 164 penalty minutes.Bringing him in also means managing the public perception of his return.
