Sutton caught some flak from the St Mirren boss for his comments last weekend and he’s responded via the pages of Record SportChris Sutton<\/p>\n

Chris Sutton says his comments about St Mirren<\/a> boss Stephen Robinson were intended as a compliment.<\/p>\n

But the Record Sport columnist says he still wouldn’t pay to watch his ‘industrial’ team.<\/p>\n

Robinson bit back at Celtic<\/a> hero Sutton<\/a>‘s comments on Sky Sports when he said St Mirren tend to ‘lump it’ up the park.<\/p>\n

The Saints boss said he doesn’t care what Sutton has to say and accused him of trying to stay relevant.<\/p>\n

Sutton, speaking to Record Sport ahead of his Saturday column going live, says his comments were intended as a compliment \u2013 but he still wouldn’t fork over the cash to go and watch them.<\/p>\n

He said: “Stephen Robinson took offence to some of my comments about his St Mirren side \u2013 but I was actually paying him and his team a compliment.<\/p>\n

“I said he\u2019d done a great job with the tools at his disposal, hailed his efforts getting his team regularly competing for the top six and for Europe.<\/p>\n

“All I said was that they were an ugly watch at times and I wouldn\u2019t open the curtains if they were playing in the garden.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s just my feeling. They are industrial at times, they do like to shell it, and that\u2019s fair enough. It\u2019s effective and good on Robinson for making his team tough to beat.<\/p>\n

“I just wouldn\u2019t want to pay to watch it.”<\/p>\n

Responding to Sutton’s comments on TV last weekend, Robinson<\/a> said: \u201cPeople always like to tell you good news, so I got told some of it, but everyone\u2019s got an opinion and everyone\u2019s entitled to it. I don\u2019t actually care.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest with you, I\u2019m very confident in what I do. You don\u2019t get 400 league games if you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re doing, and yeah, everyone\u2019s entitled to their opinion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s it. Listen, everyone\u2019s entitled to their opinion, so that\u2019s what people are paying for, is trying to stay relevant, and it doesn\u2019t bother me too much to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n
