Credit: Ross Swanborough\/The West Australian<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Ms MacKinnon said the markets have become \u201cso synonymous with Perth in summer\u201d that they\u2019ve evolved into a crucial part of the city\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe energy of everyone in those first couple of weeks is just so high, and the community\u2019s buzzing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThere\u2019s this real sense of pride in the communities that all these markets are happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">This sense of excitement is shared by the vendors who are the heart and soul of the events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Ivan Munerato, the owner and chef of food truck Pasta e Fagioli, said he has been eagerly awaiting the return of the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe really can\u2019t wait to enjoy the vibes of the summer night markets again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIt\u2019s not just about the event in itself. Credit: supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Originally from Italy, Mr Munerato has been living in Perth for 13 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">When he first arrived, he never imagined he would become a food truck owner, but he quickly traded an indoor kitchen for the great outdoors. He said it is this lifestyle that kept him here in WA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cYou get to enjoy your work while also enjoying the outdoors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cI can cook in a cool spot, in a cool park, right on the beach or right on the river, there is nothing more I can look for than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Jane Liang, who runs the Just Dumplings food truck, echoed this sentiment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cI like being in a very busy place, I love summer markets because we get busier because of the weather,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cAnd then in the winter I have time for my family, I like the flexibility of owning a food truck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The markets have also become a major draw for tourists, particularly the Scarborough Sunset Markets, which have achieved Instagram-famous status.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2fd47ee43980d2892361e94d66b7095411a70547.jpg\" alt=\"Several summer markets will return for another year.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconSeveral summer markets will return for another year. Credit: supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Ms MacKinnon said the Scarborough Sunset Markets are consistently listed as a \u201cmust-do\u201d on tourist websites and social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Just recently, Ms MacKinnon had an au pair from Germany who, within two hours of arriving in Perth, showed her a TikTok video of the beachside market and asked, \u201cwhere is this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cAll of my friends said I have to go here,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Ms MacKinnon believes summer night markets have become so popular because they \u201cembody our way of life and how we want people to think about Perth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThey showcase the city as being community-based, with beautiful weather, great food, and an outdoorsy culture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The markets are always evolving, with new food vendors entering the scene each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The upcoming season will see some exciting changes, particularly at Scarborough.
