After announcing her retirement in 2024, German tennis star Angelique Kerber<\/a> will be making a brief comeback as she’s set to compete at the Luxembourg Open<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n

The eight-woman invitational will take place at the Grand Duchy\u2019s Coque Arena from October 9-12, 2025. The event often features WTA legends, who thrill the crowds with play that reminds fans why they were so special in the first place.<\/p>\n

From its inception in 2022, the legends tournament has enjoyed strong support from Luxembourg\u2019s royal family, government, business community and fans. Four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters<\/a> defeated fellow tennis legend Martina Hingis in the final of the inaugural version, and the tournament has been a hit ever since.<\/p>\n

Each year the event is prepared on the backs of about 90 volunteers. The tournament includes a program of panel discussions, tennis clinics and sponsor engagements, with the tournament organizers donating proceeds to the WTA Foundation as a show of friendship and solidarity.<\/p>\n

The 2025 edition will feature even more WTA legends<\/p>\n

After winning three Grand Slam titles, Australian Open and US Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2018, Kerber would struggle with inconsistencies before falling out of the top 10. The German star would eventually take time off to give birth to her child in 2023, and attempted a brief comeback in 2024. However, she would officially retire after the 2024 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

Kerber will be making her debut at the star-studded event. The 37-year old will be joined by defending champion Kirsten Flipkens, and 2023 winner Anett Kontaveit.<\/p>\n

Additionally, France\u2019s Aliz\u00e9 Cornet and Spain\u2019s Anabel Medina Garrigues will also debut, with previous participants Kim Clijsters and Barbora Strycova making up the rest of the competitors.\u00a0This year\u2019s field will compete for a share of \u20ac110,000 in prize money, with \u20ac50,000 awarded to the champion<\/p>\n
