Dexter: Original Sin<\/a> creator Clyde Phillips is speaking out for the first time about the Paramount+ decision to reverse its renewal of the show.<\/p>\n

The showrunner, who also helmed the original Dexter series and is currently working on the sequel series Dexter: Resurrection<\/a> (which was officially renewed<\/a>), recently visited the Dissecting Dexter<\/a> podcast to discuss his disappointment over how Paramount+ handled the cancellation. <\/p>\n

Clyde recalled the \u201ctough phone call\u201d he had with the network. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey had already picked up the show, and I had informed all the writers and all the actors. Then they un-picked it up.\u201d He continued, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t handled well, and I\u2019m not happy about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As fans of the franchise are likely aware, Paramount+ originally renewed the prequel series for a sophomore season. But several months later, the company changed its mind and canceled the show instead, not long after the Paramount-Skydance merger was finalized.<\/p>\n

Also on the podcast, the showrunner teased what we would have seen if Original Sin had continued. He intended to introduce younger versions of popular characters like Doakes, one of Dexter\u2019s biggest adversaries from the original series. Additionally, he wanted to continue exploring the fraught relationship between Dexter and his half-brother Brian.<\/p>\n

In light of the prequel\u2019s cancellation, Clyde suspects that the other prequel in development\u2014one focused on John Lithgow<\/a>\u2018s Trinity Killer\u2014will probably not move forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they canceled Original Sin, which is a built-in hit, how are they going to pick up Trinity? If they do, I\u2019d be delighted, but I don\u2019t see them doing it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
