A stage presentation at the KyoMAF event on Saturday for the television anime<\/a> of Rocket Shokai<\/a>‘s Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004<\/a> (Y\u016bsha-kei ni Shosu: Ch\u014dbatsu Y\u016bsha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku<\/a>) light novel series revealed a new promotional video and two new cast members.<\/p>\n

The anime was originally scheduled to premiere<\/a> in October, but will now debut<\/a> in January 2026. The show will have a 60-minute special as its first episode. <\/p>\n

Crunchyroll<\/a> will stream<\/a> the series as it airs.<\/p>\n

The anime stars:\n<\/p>\n

Hiroyuki Takashima<\/a> (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation<\/a> episode director, The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls U149<\/a> OVA<\/a> assistant director) is directing the anime at Studio KAI<\/a>. Yoshitake Nakak\u014dji<\/a> is the assistant director, and is also credited as creature designer. Kenta Ihara<\/a> (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-<\/a>, Ishura<\/a>, Nukitashi the Animation<\/a>) is writing and supervising the series’ scripts. Takeshi Noda<\/a> (DAN DA DAN<\/a> sub-character designs) is designing the characters. Shunsuke Takizawa<\/a> is composing the music. Nobutaka Ike<\/a> is credited for worldbuilding. Kouta Sugawa<\/a> is the prop designer.<\/p>\n

Yen Press<\/a> is releasing<\/a> the novel series in English, and it describes the story:\n<\/p>\n

Heroism\u2014a punishment for only the worst criminals. Those sentenced to the fate of a hero are forced to fight at the front lines against the demon king’s army\u2014and if they die, they can expect to be revived and continue the battle. But when their leader, convicted of killing a goddess, meets another goddess himself, the contract they forge may be enough to change the world…<\/p>\n

Shokai launched the light novel series on Kadokawa<\/a>‘s Kakuyomu site in October 2020, and Kadokawa began publishing the series in print in September 2021 with illustrations by Mephisto<\/a>. Kadokawa released the seventh volume on January 17.<\/p>\n

Natsumi Inoue<\/a> launched the novel’s manga adaptation on Kadokawa’s Dengeki Comic Regulus<\/a> website in March 2022. Kadokawa published the manga’s second compiled book volume in April 2024. BookWalker<\/a> Global is releasing<\/a> the manga digitally in English. <\/p>\n
