She handed over in third.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Jemma Pollard had a stonking run, getting the Aussies back up to third.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But then the field came back with a vengeance onto the shoulders of Carla Bull.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Jamaica win, Norway power through to finish second in a new national record time, Poland took the third and final automatic spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Italy and Spain have the next two spots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Australia still beat Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which is impressive.<\/p>\n<p>27m agoSat 20 Sep 2025 at 10:59am<\/p>\n<p>WOMEN&#8217;S 4x400M RELAY: Aussies in heat one<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/lcimg-d13a2dbc-1a4b-4fa4-a967-f2a4bf135b6f.jpeg\" alt=\"Simon Smale profile image\" class=\"Avatar_avatarImage__f1Jjg\" style=\"display:none\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Australia has been named in a very tough heat one of the women&#8217;s 4x400m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Poland, Norway and Spain have all run fairly quick times this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But the only team that Australia has run faster than in this heat is Jamaica, so it&#8217;s going to be very tough to get through.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">That being said, heat two isn&#8217;t too shabby either: USA, Belgium, Netherlands, France, South Africa, Ireland \u2014 all capable of getting through given the right conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">First three go through automatically, plus the two fastest losers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mia Gross, Ellie Beer, Jemma Pollard and Carla Bull are the Aussies who&#8217;ll run a lap each.<\/p>\n<p>27m agoSat 20 Sep 2025 at 10:58am<\/p>\n<p>Super Sunday, incoming<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/lcimg-d13a2dbc-1a4b-4fa4-a967-f2a4bf135b6f.jpeg\" alt=\"Simon Smale profile image\" class=\"Avatar_avatarImage__f1Jjg\" style=\"display:none\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Those four men ran so well against very stiff competition! I believe we will put on a great show, although I don&#8217;t like the circle here &#8211; it&#8217;s too fast for me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Lithuanian world record holder Mykolas Alekna\u00a0did not make the automatic qualifying mark, but his brother, Martynas Alenka, did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Well that&#8217;s not going to be at all confusing, is it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It felt easy today,&#8221; Denny said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I have been preparing in Australia, trying to stay away from the heat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It was weird watching the first four days of competition in Australia. This is a very young Australian team. I feel old and I am only 29. It keeps me accountable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I want to win and keep a high standard but also enjoy time with those coming through the ranks. I overtook the Chinese and Spanish athlete on the last lap but I thought I was second and accelerated to try to win a medal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It was a tough race and I knew I could grow as the race progressed, that I could connect with the leading group. I gradually moved up a few places. I did not finish my first one in 2013 and I won gold today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This is my fourth world championships medal and I am honoured to be part of the same generation of athletes as (400m hurdler) Alison dos Santos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;People in Brazil can now say, &#8216;Caio Bonfim won medals as well.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Now he has to go home \u2014 sans wedding ring \u2014 and try to make it up with his wife.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">And it seems she&#8217;s not the only family member who this gold medal is needed to make amends with.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The oldest of my three children, Miguel, told me he missed me,&#8221; Bonfim said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I said that my success could compensate for my absence.
