{"id":157166,"date":"2025-09-20T19:01:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T19:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/157166\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T19:01:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T19:01:07","slug":"orioles-claim-dom-hamel-mlb-trade-rumors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/157166\/","title":{"rendered":"Orioles Claim Dom Hamel &#8211; MLB Trade Rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Orioles announced that right-hander <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hameldo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-09-20_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dom Hamel<\/a> was claimed off waivers from the Mets.\u00a0 Hamel has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.\u00a0 Baltimore already had a vacancy on its 40-man roster so no further transaction was required.<\/p>\n<p>New York designated Hamel for assignment earlier this week, and the 26-year-old will change organizations for the first time in his pro career.\u00a0 Hamel was a third-round pick for the Mets in the 2021 draft, and his time with the club culminated in his Major League debut this past Wednesday.\u00a0 Despite three singles and a hit batter over a single inning of work, Hamel escaped from his first MLB game without allowing any runs.<\/p>\n<p>The long ball has been Hamel\u2019s biggest obstacle in his climb up the minor league ladder, as his homer rate spiked considerably once he made his Triple-A debut in 2024.\u00a0 Over 192 1\/3 innings at Triple-A Syracuse, Hamel allowed 35 home runs, which contributed heavily to his 6.27 ERA in the last two seasons.\u00a0 On the plus side, he did post a solid strikeout rate at Triple-A, and he cut his walk rate from 13.2% in 2024 to 7.4% this season.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 campaign has also seen Hamel go from a full-fledged starter role to more usage as a relief pitcher, sometimes in a regular bullpen role and other times as an opener or as a multi-inning reliever.\u00a0 At least the bottom-line numbers were somewhat better for Hamel as a reliever (4.61 ERA) than as a starter (6.18 ERA), though the role change didn\u2019t exactly unlock a new level of success.<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore\u2019s claim gives the Orioles some time to evaluate Hamel both in the remainder of this season and into the winter.\u00a0 While Hamel might well be a DFA candidate again depending on how the Orioles upgrade their 40-man roster during the offseason, he has all three of his minor league options remaining, so that flexibility could give him some extra appeal to Baltimore\u2019s 2026 bullpen plans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Orioles announced that right-hander Dom Hamel was claimed off waivers from the Mets.\u00a0 Hamel has been optioned&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":157167,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[558],"tags":[64,63,104643,591,85],"class_list":["post-157166","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mlb","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-dom-hamel","tag-mlb","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/157166","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=157166"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/157166\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/157167"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=157166"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=157166"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=157166"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
