M\ufeffany have called it Australia’s top night for fashion, but how did the Brownlow Medal<\/a> become Australia’s version of the Met Gala<\/a>? <\/p>\n

The Brownlow Medal is the \ufeffannual awards ceremony for the AFL, but it’s become much more than that for Aussie fashion fans.<\/a><\/p>\n

The wives and girlfriends of the AFL players go all-out for the awards ceremony, with one look in particular setting the tone for years to come.<\/p>\n

A look back at the Brownlow Medal’s most stylish moments<\/p>\n

“Until then, our relationship had been low profile,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

Ever since that iconic 2004 moment, fashion fans have turned to the show to see all the best looks, while the guests make an effort to outdo themselves each year.<\/p>\n

The attention also fell onto the Brownlow because the athlete’s partners were already well known within Australian media, mostly as models and more recently, influencers.<\/p>\n

Why would they not use the opportunity to dress up and look fabulous?<\/p>\n

It’s also a chance for Australian designers to shine.<\/p>\n

It’s gotten to the point where Vogue Australia cover the best looks of the night. \ufeff<\/p>\n

“On the Australian sporting calendar, there’s nothing quite like the glamour of the Brownlow,” Vogue Australia wrote in their 2024 coverage of the event.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe awards show is hosted at the luxurious Crown Palladium in Melbourne, with each couple pictured as they walk in.<\/p>\n

Aside from the 2004 red dress moment, there’s been plenty of iconic fashion statements made during the award show.<\/p>\n

It certainly is a fashion event of the year, and one that many will be tuning in to watch on Monday night \u2013 even if they don’t care for the sporting aspect.\ufeff<\/p>\n
