Nevada\u2019s unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points and now sits at 5.3 percent and the labor force decreased by 1,303, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation\u2019s (DETR) August 2025 economic report.<\/p>\n

The total number of non-farm jobs in Nevada was 1,570,100, representing no change (0.0%) over the past year and a decrease of 3,800 jobs since July 2025.<\/p>\n

Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) Employment (Seasonally Adjusted):<\/p>\n

\u2014 Carson City employment had an increase of 300 jobs (0.9%) since July, an increase of 100 jobs (0.3%) since August 2024.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Reno employment had a decrease of 400 jobs (-0.1%) since July, an increase of 800 jobs (0.3%) since August 2024.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Las Vegas employment decreased by 4,300 jobs (-0.4%) since July, a decrease of 5,000 jobs (-0.4%) since August 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe August report shows a labor market that is largely stationary. The total number of jobs is now effectively unchanged from a year ago, and the unemployment rate fell slightly as some unemployed individuals left the labor market. Private sector employment fell by 6,000 jobs over the month, led by statistically significant declines in the Construction and Accommodation & Food Services industries,\u201d said David Schmidt, Chief Economist. \u201cHowever, we have not experienced a surge in new claims for unemployment benefits from workers in those industries and data on hours worked and hourly wages continue to remain steady, pointing to an ongoing demand for workers.\u201d<\/p>\n
