With last week’s Chiefs<\/a>-Eagles game reigniting the NFL’s tush push debate, many are anticipating that the league will take another look at its offseason ruling where it decided against banning the play.<\/p>\n

A new wave of anger arose in the NFL’s second week after several members of Philadelphia’s offensive line were spotted getting a jump start on the snap “multiple” times in the Eagles’ 20-17 victory.<\/p>\n

The tush push ban fell two votes short during the annual league meetings back in spring, gaining 22 of the necessary 24 votes needed to facilitate a change. But as ESPN’s Adam Schefter<\/a> reports, those upset with that ruling shouldn’t hold their breathe about the push going extinct in 2026 and beyond.<\/p>\n

‘No guarantee’ tush push goes up for new vote<\/p>\n

In an article posted to ESPN.com, Schefter offered an update on where things stand as far as the tush push and the NFL’s competition committee. And it doesn’t sound like the league is going to be overreactive to the negative press it saw from Week 2’s Eagles win.<\/p>\n

Writes Schefter: “Despite the anger about another year of the tush push and the debate it already has sparked this season, the controversial play might not be going anywhere. League sources told ESPN<\/a> that there are no assurances that the tush push issue will be brought up for conversation or a vote by the NFL this offseason.”<\/p>\n

“One source told ESPN that, after the hotly contested conversation the play raised last offseason and the emotions it aroused, he believes the entire issue needs to be tabled for a year before it could be raised again,” the insider added.<\/p>\n

Noting, “A new proposal to ban the play would need a new author, more support, and more votes \u2014 and one source told ESPN that he didn’t know whether that could or would happen, adding that there’s been no movement to make it happen, at least this early in the year.”<\/p>\n

NFL fans give their predictions<\/p>\n

“If ratings take a hit I bet they will,” a user said.<\/p>\n

“What is there to discuss?” another asked. “It’s been talked about it over and over at this point.”<\/p>\n

“Going to be voted on every year until it eventually gets banned<\/a> tbh,” a fan admitted.<\/p>\n

“The Chiefs are 100% bringing it up,” another person commented.<\/p>\n

“Narrator: It will absolutely be brought up for a vote by the NFL this offseason.”<\/p>\n

A number of current and former Eagles players have come out given their thoughts on the matter. With future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce saying that the play will be “done” in the very near future.<\/p>\n

“I think the play is done,” Kelce said this week in an interview with WIP. “I think that there’s a lot of people within the league, at multiple levels, that want the play to be gone, which is fine. I think [the Eagles] will still go back to running quarterback sneak, and I’m sure they’ll figure out ways to be successful. I’m not really that concerned with it, to be very candid.”<\/p>\n

Time will tell how the league ultimately comes down on it, but it’s clear the tush push is going to be a highly-debated topic for a while.<\/p>\n
