Oscar Piastri and Franco Colapinto have been fitted with new chassis ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Both drivers found the barriers during the qualifying session, with Colapinto hitting the wall at Turn 4 during Q1 while Piastri shunted at Turn 3 during Q3.<\/p>\n
The McLaren and Alpine teams carried out inspections of the cars after the session and determined they had been damaged beyond repair.<\/p>\n
As a result, both drivers had new chassis fitted ahead of the race. Despite the change, neither driver has been penalised.<\/p>\n
Article 40 of the sporting regulations grants drivers permission to use a spare survival cell if the previous unit has “suffered genuine accident damage or has suffered a significant failure or fault”.<\/p>\n
The parts that have been replaced are identical in spec to the damaged components, which is another penalty-free requirement outlined in the regulations.<\/p>\n
Piastri will take the start of the race in ninth place, two positions behind title rival and team-mate Lando Norris.<\/p>\n
