It was the text message that changed Kendric Davis\u2019 path and it simply read: \u201cDo you have time to talk?\u201d<\/p>\n

It was April and Davis was about to head overseas to play when his phone buzzed with the SMS from none other than Matthew Dellavedova.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at the airport getting ready to leave China, but I happily took his call and he said: \u2018How can we make this work?\u2019 I replied: \u2018You tell me, you\u2019re the NBA champion and I\u2019m trying to get to where you got\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Delly told me I can be special and he believed the Kings needed to play two guards, so it didn\u2019t take much for him to convince me,\u201d Davis told CODE Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Davis made the decision to partner up with \u201cDelly\u201d at the Kings, with his focus purely on making it to the NBA.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get to learn all of his habits on and off the floor. I\u2019ve learnt so much from Delly. How he is a husband, father, teammate and person. And it isn\u2019t just about basketball. It\u2019s everything. How you carry yourself away from the court, his maturity has been enormous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis\u2019 four-year-old son, Kendric Davis Jr, is his inspiration.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously having my son fuels me even more because I want to teach him the mistakes I went through. My son is the reason I go hard and wear my emotions on my sleeve. I\u2019ve been through a lot in life and basketball is my outlet.\u201d<\/p>\n
