Peek-a-boo!<\/p>\n

A curious baby koala \u2014 the first born at Yanchep National Park in 15 years \u2014 has started to slowly explore the world outside its mum\u2019s pouch.<\/p>\n

The joey was born seven months ago to mother Miffy, who arrived at the national park in October last year from Ballarat.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past few weeks, national park rangers have been closely watching over Miffy and her pouch-young joey \u2014 occasionally catching sight of an elbow or foot, or pair of eyes,\u201d WA\u2019s Parks and Wildlife Service said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, as the joey grows in size and confidence, lucky visitors to the park\u2019s koala colony might soon be able to see it venturing out and hitching a ride on mum\u2019s back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ten months after Miffy arrived at the park, it was announced she and another Koala named Louie were expecting a bundle of joy.<\/p>\n

Yanchep National Park senior ranger at the time Phillipa Jarvis Carboon told PerthNow \u201cit was a day that we weren\u2019t necessarily sure would happen \u2014 I\u2019m stoked. I\u2019m so excited. It\u2019s just brilliant\u201d.<\/p>\n

The name of the little joey is set to be revealed in coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Koalas at Yanchep National Park can be viewed from the Koala Boardwalk and are best viewed between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Peek-a-boo!
