(Supplied: Jillian Mundy)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The documents refer to protests last year, in the Wentworth Hills areas in January and May, at Brady&#8217;s Lake on February 1, Styx Valley in February and March.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-01-14\/tasmanian-anti-logging-protesters-charges-dropped\/104815332\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prosecutors drop charges against anti-logging protesters<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Protesters disrupting logging in Tasmania appear to be gradually having trespass charges dropped by prosecutors, with 16 people walking free so far.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">According to the Bob Brown Foundation, at least 24 protesters who were at these protests have had their charges dropped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The ABC <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-01-14\/tasmanian-anti-logging-protesters-charges-dropped\/104815332\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/104815332\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously reported on the dropping of the charges, but the cause was unknown until now<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The RTI documents stated, in some cases, the directions were too broad, by effectively inferring the protesters had to leave all STT-managed land across the state, while some directions were not specific to the area where the protest was.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;As such, the subsequent police actions of arrest were compromised by this technicality,&#8221; according to a background briefing for the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Another issue arose when a STT representative cited the wrong gazette date of a logging coupe near Dover in 2023, leading to the police having to drop that charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Advice has been provided to STT regarding the reasons for the discontinuation of these prosecutions, to inform future approaches to the direction of protesters from STT land,&#8221; the briefing note continues.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A female protester in a helmet suspended in a tree with 'end native forest logging' banner\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/6044972212df90f65e97482e24b9a310\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">A &#8220;police legal officer&#8221; is now working with the logging company, the documents show.
